Environmental psychology is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the interplay between individuals and their
surroundings. It examines the way in which the natural environment and our built environments shape us as individuals.
The field defines the term environment broadly, encompassing natural environments, social settings, built
environments, learning environments, and informational environments.

Various different approaches can be adopted to creating the right features and representing them in a design: focusing
on the real needs and expectations of the people who will inhabit the space in question or on the needs voiced by the
people who will draw on this process to generate immediate financial and managerial gain. The ideal solution is to
balance these two approaches (social and financial) in a complementary way.
