Understanding Computer Network
Computer network is a system consisting of two or more
computers that are connected to each other through
transmission media or communication media so that they can
share data, applications and share computer hardware.

The purpose of building a computer network is so that

information / data carried by the sender (transmitter) can arrive
at the receiver (receiver) accurately and accurately.
Benefits of Computer Networks
• With a computer network, we can access files that we have as well
as other people's files that have been disseminated through a
network, such as the internet network
• Through a computer network, we can make the process of sending
data quickly and efficiently.
• Computer networks help someone to get in touch with other
people from various countries easily.
• In addition, users can also send text, images, audio, or video in real
time with the help of computer networks.
• We can access news or information very easily through the internet
because the internet is one example of computer networks.
• Suppose that in an office you need a printer you don't need to buy
a number of printers with a computer that is in the office. We only
need to buy one printer to be used by all office employees with the
help of computer networks.
Types of Computer Networks

Based on Geographical Reach

1. Local Area Network (LAN) Based on Distribution of
2. Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) Information / Data Sources
3. Wide Area Network (WAN) 1. Centralized Network
2. Distributed Networks

How to Build a Computer Network
1. Determining Computer Network Topology
2. Determine the tools and materials to make a computer network
• Computers
• Switch
• The network cable
• An RJ 45 connector
• Pliers Crimping serves
• LAN Tester
3. Work Procedure
• The first step that must be done is to determine the location of the switch and the computer
because later it will affect the length of the short cable to be used.
• Next is to cut the cable according to the size needed. Because later all computers will be
connected to the switch, make sure the switch location can be reached by all computers.
• The third step is kriping cables and connectors using crimping pliers. Make sure the cable
sequence is correct, which is straight, which means that between the end of the cable 1 and
the other end of the cable has the same order.
• Check cable connection with LAN Tester
• Next connect the cable to the computer and switch so that the computer can connect to each
other
• Give Ip Address to computers with the same network. For example: computer 1: IP -
192.168.1.2 netmask - 255.255.255.0, Computer 2: IP - 192.168.1.3 netmask - 255.255.255.0
• Then check the network connection by pinging the address of the destination host.
The type of topology that is often
used
According to technicians the type of topology that is suitable to
be implemented in the office is its type Star Topology because
this topology uses switches as a connection between network
cables. So, this topology is more often used than other
topologies because the costs are cheaper and the data is faster.
Because of the settings that govern the speed of data.

Application of various star topologies in the world

• Banking server
• Mini office
• Telecommunications Industry
• School network
