Insert Learning
InsertLearning is a Google Chrome
Add-On that allows teachers to
insert instructional content on any
webpage. Teachers can:
• Provide differentiation
• Make articles and historical
documents interactive
• Provide a new way to allow
students to share their voice
• Embed an array of media, such as,
FlipGrid, edpuzzle, Quizlet, and
YouTube
• Offer real-time feedback

InsertLearning + Banneker High School

InsertLearning supports the vision of Banneker
High School because it aligns with the school
and district’s vision of Personalized Learning. This
emerging technology individualizes the lesson for
each student by providing differentiation, access
to the content at any given time, student voice,
and real-time assessment feedback.

InsertLearning: A tool for every student

InsertLearning provides an avenue for every child
to learn. This add-on is appropriate for 9-12 grade
students in any class. With features such as,
embedding discussion questions, checks for
understanding, and videos through YouTube, and
fan favorite, EDPuzzle, this platform can chunk
information or provide further understanding of
content of vocabulary words within the text.

InsertLearning: Best Strategies
InsertLearning can be used in the classes with 1:1 devices. Listed below
are ways to use InsertLearning in different disciplines:
• Integrate current events by linking the standards of the class to the
content of the article. (Authentic learning, PBL, )
• In math classes with difficult concepts, teachers can embed helpful
videos to prevent students from getting “stuck.” (differentiation)
• For students who need directions read to them, teachers can add a
recording to the article of directions, or the actual article. (language
domains)
• In all class, teachers can chunk the text by providing discussion
questions or check for understandings. (Equity, higher order thinking)
• Teachers can monitor students’ progress and provide real-time
feedback so that students can readjust their understanding of the
content.

Easy Peasy…
To maximize its benefits, InsertLearning requires users to
download the Chrome Add-On. If a teacher has
embedded a video into the lesson, students may need
headphones.

Technical support is only provided for School

Subscriptions, although, there is an extensive list of video
tutorials on the InsertLearning YouTube channel.

InsertLearning: Limitations
3.6

While there are no direct ethical, safe, healthy, or legal limitations, there are
financial limitations. InsertLearning offers three subscriptions. The free
subscription only allows the teacher to use this platform for five lessons. In order
to use InsertLearning consistently, one would have to buy an Individual Teacher
subscription or a School subscription.
1.3

InsertLearning: Funding
As previously discussed, for teachers who use texts consistently, InsertLearning
would work best with a paid subscription. Banneker High School could use funds
from the School Improvement Grant to purchase a School Subscription or
Individual Teacher Subscriptions. Each year, for five years, Banneker High School
receives approximately 1 million dollars to spend on materials, software, etc. that
support academic achievement. While the funding source is not sustainable, it can
set the foundation for the first few years of the use of InsertLearning at
Banneker High School.
3.7

InsertLearning: Extending the Walls of the Classroom

InsertLearning is a great platform to integrate real-world

concepts into the classroom through articles and other text
related to all content areas. Because it is an online platform,
students can use it at home, as long as they have the Google
Chrome Add-on. Completing the assignment at home could
foster a conversation with the parents or guardians about the
content that is being taught through the article. Specifically, in
Civics/ American Government courses, the happenings of the
community and local government can be analyzed and
discussed through the lessons created through
InsertLearning.

InsertLearning: Blended Model

While there is no research addressing InsertLearning
specifically, there is a great amount of research addressing
the Blended Model of learning the InsertLearning provides.

According to, Dziuban, Graham, Moskal, Norberg, & Sicilia

(2018), the Blended Model improves student achievement
and is ranked how on students’ method of learning.

InsertLearning: Plan of Implementation

5.2

To implement InsertLearning, Kotter’s Model will be used.

Step 1: Highlight the new technology by including an overview in the weekly
newsletter.
Step 2: Present InsertLearning to the Technology leaders and Leadership Team.
Step 3: During the Leadership Team meeting, align the purpose of
InsertLearning with the instructional mission and vision of Banneker High
School.
Step 4: Increase staff anticipation by communicated the vision of using
InsertLearning through the weekly newsletter.
Step 5: Remove obstacles by providing professional development to the
teachers through their departmental PLCs. The intended outcome of the PD
will be for teachers to have an account and a created lesson.
Step 6: Follow up with teachers who are using InsertLearning and shout them
out with picture and video highlights in the weekly newsletter.
Step 7: Continue the Follow-up process with individual teachers and during
departmental PLCs.
Step 8: Analyze the effectiveness of InsertLearning and continue to encourage

InsertLearning: Reflection
Two years ago, I was introduced to EdPuzzle and I instantly
embedded it into my lesson plans because of its ability to
personalize video content to students. InsertLearning sparks the
same enthusiasm because it allows the integration of discussion
questions, videos, text, and checks for understanding. It’s major use
will be for chunking the text to allow students to process the text
paragraph/section by paragraph/section. While selecting and
evaluating this emerging technology, I had to learn to evaluate from
a lens that every department could see through, not just a social
studies teacher. This platform benefits all disciplines.
