SHIFTING TRENDS IN APPAREL
PRODUCTION
GLOBAL ECONOMY
Caution Ahead
A potential turn in the economic cycle is prompting
concern among industry executives over prospects for
the coming year.
Indian Ascent
India is increasingly a focal point for the fashion
industry, reflecting a rapidly growing middle-class and
increasingly powerful manufacturing sector.
Trade 2.0
All companies will need to prepare contingency plans
to face a potential shake-up of global value chains.
CONSUMER SHIFTS
End of Ownership
The lifespan of the fashion product is becoming more elastic as pre-owned, refurbished, repair
and rental business models continue to evolve.
Getting Woke
Younger consumers are seriously concerned with social and environmental causes, which many
regard as being the defining issues of our time.
CONT.
Now or Never
•The time lag between discovery and purchase is a pain-point for
customers who continue to expect better experiences.
•Consumers turn to a much wider range of inspirations, from social
media, celebrities and influencers, to spotting an attractive look
on the street.
Radical Transparency
Fashion companies must come to terms with the fact that a more
distrusting consumer expects full transparency across the value
chain.
FASHION SYSTEM
Self-Disrupt
Traditional brands are beginning to disrupt their own business models
image and offering in response to a new breed of small emerging brands
that are accelerating thanks to decreasing brand loyalty and a growing
appetite for newness.
Digital Landgrab
Platform of choice for both customers and fashion companies intensifies,
e-commerce players will continue to innovate by adding profitable value-
added services and focusing on new technologies
CONT.
On Demand
Mass market players will begin to follow suit, aiming to
respond more rapidly to trends and consumer demand.
The result is likely to be a rise in just-in-time production,
reduced levels of overstock and the rising importance of small-
batch production cycles.
CONCLUSION
•India has to leverage on its huge resource potential
•Delivering the quality will help penetrate India into France’s textile and apparel market
•There has been significant shifts in fashion business, global economy , consumers
•Fashions giants needs to focus on changing preferences of the consumers
