Minitab

• MINITAB Statistical Software is a comprehensive

statistical and graphical analysis software package
used for all Textron Six Sigma projects
• Release Upgrade
- Textron is upgrading from Minitab Release 13.32 to

graphs, statistics close at hand
- Additional and expanded Statistics
• Graphics
- Highly editable graphs (more like EXCEL)
- Combine multiple graphs onto a single display
- Some graphs update automatically if the data changes
- Easier to produce ‘group by’ graphs
- ‘Hot Spots’ on graphs give underlying data information

• Displays the output of your statistical analysis
• Is saved as an historical record of analysis

Worksheet Window:
Columns:
• One column per variable
• Three types of data Date,
Text & Numeric

Minitab Project File

• File name ends in .MPJ

• Project files contain all
worksheets, graphs, session
data and completed analysis.
Saving as a project file will
allow you to retrieve all
information and data about
your project including dynamic
cell definitions

Minitab Worksheet File

• File name ends in .MTW

• Worksheet files contain only
the data on a single worksheet
and no session, graphs or

Minitab Worksheets

1. Creating a Worksheet
• Typing data in
• Creating data with built-in randomizing or pattern tools
• Copying/ Pasting from excel
• Opening an excel file from Minitab and loading a
worksheet
• Importing data from a data base
2. Saving a Worksheet
• Saves ONLY the data
• Prevents you from saving graphs
• Causes the name of the file to end with .mtw

Creating Dynamic Cells
• Worksheets columns
- You cannot enter formulas directly into cells to create new data
- Normally Calc>Calculator is used to perform a 1 time data
creation
- Are not normally linked or actively updated when Calc is used to
create new data
• To get a capability similar to EXCEL you must use the
following procedure
- Select the range of columns you will be using in your formula
- Choose Edit>Copy Cells
- Choose Edit>Worksheet Links>Manage Links
- Click Add
- Type the formula using the LET statement
- Click Add
- Click OK
- Save as a Project NOT a worksheet
