Current Activities
1. EDUCATION
• RuruKids: (basic) provides innovative art programs for children and youth. Total audience per event
around 5-30 kids;
• GudangXkul: (intermediate) is a creative extracurricular program for high school students. Total audience
per event around 10-50 people;
• Institut ruangrupa (Ir.): (college and university) provides writing, curatorial, management classes, art
creation for post-graduate students. Total audience per class around 12 - 15 people.
2. FESTIVALS
This is a platform that focuses on discovering, promoting/distributing, and maintaining critical
and creative ideas and the potentials of Indonesia’s art and cultural actors: artists, critics,
curator, and art organization/communities etc.
• Holy Market (since 2009) is a bazaar of creative products, exhibitions, musical
performances, poetry reading. Since 2009-2017 Total audience 25.000 ;
• Jakarta 32ºC - Jakarta Student Work Festival (since 2004). Student forums, exhibitions,
discussions, publications, curatorial films and music. Since 2004-2016 Total audience
35.000;
• RRREC Fest in The Valley (since 2014). Music performances, workshops, artist residencies,
discussions, film screenings, and art exhibitions since 2014-2016 . Total audience 1500;
• ExtraKurikulab (since 2016) exhibition, publishing, workshop, symposium. Total audience
6.000;
• MuVi Party Festival (since 2016). Music video festival, multimedia performance. Total
audience 5.000;
• Graphic Arts Festival (since 2016). Exhibitions, workshops, seminars, print markets. Total
audience 1.500;
• OK. Video - Indonesia Media Art Festival (Since 2003). Exhibition, workshop; publishing,
discussion, film screening, multimedia performance, open lab. Total audience since 2003-
2017 35.000;
• Tumpah Ruah (since 2016). A bargain market. Total audience 10.000.
3. MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS
The magnitude of the music scene outside of the mainstream and its
strong collaboration with art and other arts fields, renders the
importance of the support in infrastructure and promotion.
• RRREC Fest (since 2011). Music festival featuring various groups of
artists, communities, musicians and music organizers from various
countries. Since 2011-2017. Total audience 10.000

4. EXHIBITION
• ruru gallery, The 200m2 GSE Gallery becomes the main showroom for
mediating, and promotes the works of interdisciplinary artists,
designers, and creative practitioners. The works shown includes wide
range of visual arts expression such as; installation, media arts,
photography, painting, drawing, prints, media art, archive, object,
sculpture, performance art, mural, graffiti, and art merchandise. Since
2007-2016. Total audience 7.000 people
5. ONLINE MEDIA
Online media is part of our communication strategy on knowledge distribution, and give an
alternative view than the mainstream media.
• RURU Radio (since 2010), contemporary streaming internet radio. Total followers in Instagram
14.200, total audience for music concert around 10.000;
• Karbon Journal, started from print media in 2000 and switched media to online in 2007. Focused
on research and writing about urban phenomenon, youth and visual culture. Total audience
monthly around 500-700 (website visit)

6. AUDIO VISUAL
Due to the lack on independent screening spaces in Jakarta, GSE provides a space for independent
screening of films that might not find audiences in the commercial film scene
• Gerobak Bioskop (mobile cinema) is an infrastructure and media distribution program inspired
by the spirit of ‘layar tancap’ tradition in Indonesia. The cart has been working with 25
communities spread over 10 cities in Indonesia. Audience per screening around 30-100 people
