INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND
• As a creature that lives in the community and always interacts with other
communities, of course, requires a communication tool to be able to understand
each other about something. What needs to be understood? Many things one of
them is a sign. So that the sign can be understood correctly and the same
requires the same concept so that there is no misunderstanding or
misunderstanding. But in reality the sign cannot always be understood correctly
and equally among the people. Everyone has an interpretation of its own meaning
and of course with a variety of reasons behind it. Science that discusses the sign
is called semiotik (the study of signs). People always ask what is meant by signs?
Many signs in our daily lives such as traffic signs, signs of an event or other signs.
THEORY OF SEMIOTICS

Ferdinand de Saussure (Father of modern linguistics 1857-1913) from

Switzerland originally was a teacher in the Sanskrit and historical
linguistic fields. He studies linguistic synchronic open diachronic.
Ferdinand de Saussure argues that langue is the most important
system. Therefore, another science can be formed which examines the
signs in social life that are part of social psychology; he named it
sémiologie. The word comes from Greek sēmeîon which means "sign".
Linguistics is a part of the knowledge that covers all those signs.
Semiotic rules can be applied to linguistics.
Ferdinand De saussure defined linguistic signs as two-sided entities.

• The first side is called a marker (signifier)

• • The second side he calls a signified

The kinds of semiotics according
to Ferdinand De Saussure
1. Communication Semiotics
2. Social Semiotics
3. Media
4. Advertising
5. Sign of Nonverbal
6. Film
7. Comics, cartoons and caricatures
8. literature
9. music
The conclusions that we took based on the above
discussion are: The main point of Saussure theory is the
principle that language is a sign system and each sign
CONCLUSION is composed of two parts, namely signifier and signified.
According to Saussure, language is a sign system.
Saussure uses an anti-historical approach that sees
language as a system that is intact and harmonious
internally (language). He proposed a language theory
called “structuralism”.
