THE CONTAMINATION OF

THE ENVIRONMENT
THE CONTAMINATION OF THE
ENVIRONMENT
Is the presence of
substances (garbage,
pesticides, dirty water)
strange of human origin in
the environment, causing
alterations in the structure
of the ecosystem
CAUSES OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION.
 Solid household waste
• Industrial solid waste
• Excess fertilizer and chemical products
• Felling
• Burning
• Trash
• Carbon monoxide in vehicles
• Drainage of sewage or contaminated water to the sea
or rivers
Effects of contamination
The effects are manifested
by alterations in the
ecosystem; in the
generation and spread of
diseases in living beings,
mass death and in extreme
cases the disappearance of
animal and plant species
Causing Pollution
 The chemical pollutants come mainly from the
chemical industry: toxic mineral products, acids,
organic solvents, detergents, plastics, petroleum
products, pesticides (such as DDT), synthetic
fertilizers.
 The physical contaminants we find radioactivity,
heat, noise, mechanical effects
 The biological pollutants refer to organic waste that,
when decomposed, ferment and cause damage
(excreta, factory waste, paper, sawdust from the forest
industry, drains)
Types of contamination
Water pollution: is the incorporation into the water of
foreign matter, such as microorganisms, chemicals,
industrial waste, and other types or wastewater. These
materials deteriorate the water quality and make it
useless for the intended uses
Soil pollution: the incorporation into the soil of foreign
matter, such as garbage, toxic waste, chemical products,
and industrial waste. Soil contamination produces a
physical, chemical and biological imbalance that
negatively affects plants, animals and humans.
Air pollution: is the harmful addition to the atmosphere
of toxic gases, CO, or others that affect the normal
development of plants, animals and negatively affect the
health of humans
