PERFORMANCE OF CONCRETE WITH

PLASTIC GRANULES AS A PARTIAL

REPLACEMENT OF FINE AGGREGATE
INTRODUCTION
•Urbanization and industrialization had resulted in a
significant rise in the quantity of plastic waste.

•Present work is about the possibility of using the recycled

plastic waste granules (high density polyethylene) as partial
replacement of fine aggregate in concrete.

•Concrete with 10%, 20%, 30% pulverized plastic granules as a

partial replacement of fine aggregate is prepared after doing
the mix design.

• Mix design is done as per IS Code 10262:2009 and cubes are

cast for M30 grade of concrete.

•Slump test is used to understand workability and usefulness of

partially replaced fine aggregate.

Compressive strength obtained is compared with the results of

conventional concrete.

CONCLUSION

•HDPE granules as partial replacement of fine aggregate in concrete reduce the

problem of environmental disposal.

•With increase in % of HDPE granules in concrete there is a decrease in weight of

concrete. Every 10% increase in HDPE granules there is a 5% decrease in weight.

• Compared to conventional concrete the concrete with HDPE replaced as fine aggregate
had showed decrease in compressive strength. For 10% HDPE granules in concrete
replaced by fine aggregate there is a decrease in 12% of compressive strength.
