THE VEGETARIAN SOCIETY DEFINES A VEGETARIAN AS:

Someone who lives on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds,


vegetables and fruits with, or without, the use of dairy products
and eggs. A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish,
shellfish or by-products of slaughter."
THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF
VEGETARIAN:

 Lacto-vegetarians (eat dairy products


but not eggs, poultry, meat or seafood)
 Ovo-vegetarians (eat eggs but not dairy
products, poultry, meat or seafood)
 Lacto-ovo vegetarians (eat eggs and
dairy products, but not poultry, meat or
seafood)
 Pescetarian (eat fish, eggs and dairy
products, but not poultry or meat).
Vegans
Vegans do not eat:
• meat, fish, seafood or other animal
by-products such as gelatine;
• dairy products such as cows milk,
cheese, yogurt, goats milk;
• eggs or foods containing eggs such
as mycoprotein;
• honey.

Among the environmental benefits of vegetarianism
we can highlight:

 DECREASE IN WATER CONSUMPTION, taking into


account that livestock requires more water than
agriculture. The production of a kilo of meat
consumes around 18,500 liters of water, while a
portion of rice only needs 100 liters.
 SAVINGS IN THE USE OF FUEL: both transport and
maintenance of meat are processes that need
more fuel than vegetable production.
 PROTECTION OF FORESTS: around 6 million
hectares of forests are cleared every year to feed
and store animals.
 REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GASES: meat
refrigeration processes generate 37% of methane
emissions produced by human activity, being one
of the greenhouse gases with the greatest impact

This type of food pyramid shows us, thanks to its distribution by levels,
the foods that should be included daily in greater or lesser amounts.
CONCLUSION
 people who get this type of food are healthier;

 A vegetarian diet helps prevent coronary heart disease,


cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, ovaries, breast, liver,
and prostate, osteoporosis. Vegetarian diets often lead to
healthier results
