Introduction:
Pump is a hydraulic machine which converts
mechanical energy through impeller into
Pressure energy to the liquid, which passes
through its inlet to outlet.
Pumps are basically classified in to two types
1) Centrifugal pumps
2) Positive displacement pump
Scope :

This international standard

Specifies the requirements of Centrifugal
pumps used in Petroleum, Petrochemical
& gas industry process services.
Terms & Definitions
NPSH: The required net positive suction head is a
measure of the pressure drop of the liquid as it moves
from the inlet of the pump to the eye of the impeller.
Available Net positive suction: The available NPSH
is the net pressure available in a given system, based on
vessel pressure and static head minus the liquid vapor
pressure and functional losses in the system.
The available NPSH is greater than the required NPSH.
Insufficient NPSH can reduce pump capacity and efficiency
and lead to cavitation damage.
Basic Design:
It gives the specific requirements for different
types of pumps, Pressure casings, nozzle &
pressure casing connections, External force &
moments, Rotors, Wear rings & Running
clearance, Mechanical shaft seals, Lubrication &
Materials, Name plate & rotation arrows.

5.5 External Nozzle force & moments:

5.5.1 Steels and alloy steel horizontal pumps
and vertically-suspended pumps shall be
designed for satisfactory performance if
subjected to the forces and moments in Table 4
5.5.2 Allowable forces and moments for vertical in-line
pumps shall be twice the value in Table4 for side Nozzles.

5.5.3 For pump casings constructed of materials other than

steel or alloy steel or for pump with nozzles larger than
DN400(16 NPS),the vendor shall submit allowable
nozzle loads corresponding to the format in Table4.
F.1 Horizontal Pump:
F.1.2 Piping configurations that produces load outside the
range specified in the Table4 are also acceptable without consulting
with pump vendor if the conditions are satisfied.

1) The individual component forces and moments acting on each

pump nozzle flange shall not exceed the range specified in Table4 by
factor of two.

2) The resultant applied force (FRSA, FRDA) & the resultant applied
moment (MRSA, MRDA) acting on each pump nozzle nozzle flange
shall satisfy the appropriate interaction equations below.
3) The force and moments acting on each nozzle shall be
translated to the centre of the pump. The magnitude of the
resultant applied force FRCA, the resultant applied moment
MRCA and the applied moment shall be limited by the
equation below.
Piping configuration that produce loads greater than those
allowed in above Equation shall be approved by the
Purchaser & Vendor
F.2 Vertical in-line pumps:
Vertical in-line pumps that are supported only by the attached
piping may be subjected to component piping loads that are more
than double the values shown in Table 4 if these loads do not cause
principal stress greater than 41 N/mm2 in either nozzle.

The below given equation is to evaluate principle stress, longitudinal

stress, and shear stress
