AIR CRAFT HYDRAULIC

SYSTEM
Presentation by MOHD.Habeeb Rahmatullah.
ABSTRACT
The main aspect of designing aircraft is to reduce its
weight. The hydraulically operated systems are
comparatively light in weight from other system used
in aircraft. It can provide unlimited power for various
operations, and high power producing capacity is the
major advantage of hydraulic power system.
The operations such as wing slab control, landing
gears, braking system requires very high safety and
hydraulically operated system ensures the saftey.
INTRODUCTION TO HYDRAULIC SYSTEM.
It is the system where liquid under pressure is used to
transmit the energy to various applications.
Hydraulic system take engine power and convert it
into hydraulic power by means of hydraulic pump.
This power can be distributed throughout the airplane
by means of tubing that runs through the aircraft.
AIRCRAFT HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS.
PASCAL’S LAW:
The pressure exerted at one surface of
incompressible fluid is equal to the pressure exerted on
any other surface.
 This allows a small force applied to be converted to a
large areas as in hydraulic lifts.
AIRCRAFT HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS.
HYDROSTATIC PARADOX:
The pressure exerted by a column of a liquid is
determined by the height of column and is
independent of its volume.
HYDRAULIC FLUID.
The fluid must flow with a minimum of opposition.
Must be incompressible.
Good lubrication properties.
Inhabit corrosion and not attack seals.
Must not foam in operation.
The fluid must be chemically stable.
HYDRAULIC FLUID TYPES.
Vegetable base fluid.
Mineral base fluid.
Synthetic fluid.
BASIC HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS.
BASIC HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
Reservoirs.
Pumps.
Selector valves.
Check valves.
Accumulator.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
RESERVOIRS:
It holds an extra supply of fluids for systems from which
oil was drawn when needed, or oil was return to it when
not needed.
FUNCTIONS:
To store the liquid.
Provide free space for expansion of the fluid.
Provide a place to remove air from air or foam from the
liquid.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
Hydraulic reservoir pressurised by hydraulic system
pressure.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
PUMPS:
The pump is necessary to create a flow of the liquid.
The main function of pump to hydraulic horsepower.
TYPES:
Hand pump.
Power driven.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
VALVES:
Selector valve-Selector valve is used to direct the flow of
the liquid.
Check valve-Check valve allows the fluid in one
direction only.
System relief valve-It relives pressure on system for
safety.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
ACCUMULATOR:
It acts as shock absorbers.
It stores enough fluid under pressure to provide
emergency operations of certain actuating units.
APPLICATIONS.
Single-acting linear(Brakes).
Double-acting unbalanced linear(Landing gears).
Double-acting balanced linear(Flight controls).
APPLICATIONS.
SINGLE-ACTING LINEAR.
DRUM BRAKES.
A drum brake with the drum removed as used on the
rear wheel of car or truck.
APPLICATIONS.
DOUBLE-ACTING LINEAR.
LANDING GEARS.
Landing gears aviation is the structure that support an
aircraft on the ground and allows it to taxi, take off and
landing.
ADVANTAGES.
It is lighter in weight.
It can be easily maintained.
It is not a shock hazard, it is not much of fire hazard.
It can be developed practically unlimited force or
torque.
It is reliable.
DISADVANTAGE.
Required more space(pump, hydraulic lines).
Contamination(wear failure).
Initial investment is high.
GENERAL USES.
Used for flight control, actuation of flaps, slats,
weapons, landing gears, breaks.
Provides the extra force required to move large control
surface in heavy aerodynamics loads.
CONCLUSION.
Aircraft hydraulic systems are 100% efficient than
other systems.
Aircraft hydraulic system are light weight, easy for
installation, simplification of inspection.
Aircraft hydraulic systems have minimum
maintenance.
