LEARNING OBJECTIVE
At the end of the learning process,
the students should be able to dig
up and exchange information
verbally and nonverbally with
patient at all ages, patient’s family,
society, associate, and other
professions.
LECTURE DESCRIPTION
 English is an obligatory subject that is specially
design for medical students. Each part of
material are developed using module which
emphasize on the communication between
doctor and patients, anamnesis, examination,
diagnosis, treatment and recovery. This subject
is expected to be able to improve four English
skills; reading, writing, listening, speaking.
 Duration : 14x 100 minutes

 Discussion of module : 14 x 15 minutes


LEARNING MATERIALS
 Week 1 : Understanding learning process and assessment method.
 Week 2 : Asking questions about a patient’s problem
 Week 3 : Identifying a patient’s chronic problem
 Week 4 : Exploring A patient’s problem further
 Week 5 : Initial Prognosis of an inconclusive case
 Week 6 : Tactful approach to a doubtful prognosis
 Week 7 : Informing a patient of an initial diagnosis and
explaining medical procedures
 Week 8 : Informing a patient of a final diagnosis and explaining
treatment to a patient
 Week 9 : Middle term semester test
 Week 10 : Emergency call- Enquiring about a medical problem
 Week 11 : Emergency Call – Receiving indirect information
 Week 12 : Emergency call – Describing symptoms
 Week 13 : Giving instruction to a colleague
 Week 14 : Communicating to helpers or intermediaries
 Week 15 : Life threatening and non-life threatening emergency
 Week 16 : End term semester test
Learning Tasks
 Reading Tasks based on the activity sheet of
each material.
 Writing task; constructing a conversation

between doctor and patient based on the


situation that is described in each material.
 Listening tasks based on the activity sheet of

each material
 Speaking task: Role-play based on the situation

that is described in each material.


 The assignments/tasks should be submitted based on
the schedule that has been agreed.

 The assessment is done during the learning
process. The matrix of the assessment can be
seen in the following table:
