CONCEPT OF POWER
• The complex power, gives an idea of the peak
power entering a device at any instance.
• The average real power is
An indicator of the average
power in the device.
• reactive power is the
imaginary part of
the complex power
REACTIVE POWER
• The size and rating of the device is determined
by complex power.
• The control of reactive power in a network is
important because it also impacts the voltage
magnitudes.
• By managing this power using dynamic
compensators, the voltages in the network
can be maintained at their desired values.
INSTANTANEOUS, REAL, REACTIVE AND
COMPLEX POWERS.
• Consider the simple ac circuit shown in Fig.,
which shows a resistive-inductive circuit
excited by a fundamental frequency (50 Hz) ac
source.
INSTANTANEOUS, REAL, REACTIVE AND
COMPLEX POWERS.

CONCLUSION
• The control of reactive power in 8 bus system
as well as equivalent system using FC-TCR is
analyzed.
• The circuit model for FC-TCR is obtained and
the same is used for simulation using Matlab
Simulink and PSCAD.
• Both MATLAB and PSCAD results are
equivalent.
