manufacturing and
processing conglomerate headquartered
in Chicago, Illinois, part of the Kraft Heinz Company.
• The company was restructured in 2012 as a spin
off from Kraft Foods Inc., which in turn was
renamed Mondelez International.

Heinz, arranged by Heinz owners Berkshire
Hathaway and 3G Capital creating the fifth-largest
food and beverage company in the world, Kraft
Heinz Company.

million to improve the lives of cocoa farmers and create a
sustainable cocoa economy. But the efforts by the
company, which has struggled for years to take forced
labor out of its supply chain, have been ineffective so far.

Fowlers Chocolate
• The story of Fowler's Chocolate Shoppe, Inc.
began in 1901 with a young entrepreneur by
the name of Joseph A. Fowler
• In 1910, Claude decided to start his own
business, concentrating on the making of taffy
and candied apples, and catered to carnivals,
fairs and other public gatherings

Buffalo residents Randy and Ted Marks. At
that time, the business had greatly expanded
and had outgrown its old location. The
company was relocated to its current address
at 100 River Rock Drive in Buffalo.
Fowlers Chocolate Scandals
• Child Labour
• Tomato Scandals

Crunch
• Nestlé Crunch is the name of a chocolate bar made
of milk chocolate with crisped rice mixed in,
produced by Nestlé.Nestlé Crunch was first
introduced to market in 1928. Its current slogan is,
"Munch Now. Munch Some Later." Its competition
is the Krackel bar, which was introduced by The
Hershey Companyin 1938.
• On September 11, 1994, Nestlé Crunch was
Nestlé's best-selling candy bar in the United States.
• In January 2018, Nestlé announced plans to sell its
U.S. confectionery brands (including Crunch) to
Italian chocolatier Ferrero SpA for $2.8 Billion
dollars
Deforestation In Ghana And Ivory Coast

According to some critics,

Nestle’s chocolate production is
an ugly affair, littered with
allegations of malfeasance. In
September 2017, environmental
group Mighty Earth conducted
an investigation that found
industry practices in Ivory
Coast and Ghana contributed
heavily to the countries’
deforestation crises.
Chinese Milk Scandal
• In 2008, all Chinese milk-based
products came under scrutiny when it
was discovered that a broad range of
companies, including Nestle, had
melamine in their products made
in China.
• Melamine can easily be mistaken for
protein. Thus, Chinese dairy
manufacturers illegally claimed higher
levels of protein in their products
through the use of cheaper melamine.
In baby formulas, where protein
amounts are so important, this led to
severe deficiencies.
Water Scandal
• Mad Max: Fury Road who was hoarding all
the water. Some people believe that there
are strong comparisons to be made
between him and the bigwigs at Nestle.
They’ve mined water in a manner often
deemed unethical.
• Once it’s mined, the water becomes the
property of Nestle. This takes on a sinister
tone when you consider the increasing
water shortage around the world,
especially when combined with Nestle’s
continuous politicking for water to be
reclassified as a “need” rather than a
“right.” Through the subtle shifting of
water’s classification, Nestle can become
even more possessive over the natural
resource.
Last But Not Least

How they Overcome?
• Cadbury pay worker more money so they are not working for nothing.
• Children younger than 15 continue to work at cocoa farms connected
to Nestlé, more than a decade after the food company promised to
end the use of child labour in its supply chain.
• A Nestlé spokesperson told the
Guardian: “To date we have
identified 3,933 children working on
their family farms (around 10% of
the children surveyed) who were
involved in hazardous tasks classified
as child labor. We have included half
of them in our Child Labor
Monitoring and Remediation System,
which includes providing school kits,
obtaining birth certificates and
developing income generating
activities for the families of 312
identified children. Unfortunately,
the scale and complexity of the issue
is such that no company sourcing
cocoa from Ivory Coast can
guarantee that it has completely
removed the risk of child labour from
its supply chain.”
“Scandal is gossip made tedious by morality.”
