PLANTING AND

PROPAGATING TREES
Ways
of
Planting Trees
1. DIRECT planting
* makes use of seeds and directly
planting them into the plot or garden
area. The problem with this method is
that it may take very long for the trees to
start bearing fruit .They can take up to
more than decade bear fruits and the
quality of the fruit may or may not be the
same as those from which the seeds
were taken.
2. Indirect planting
*also called transplanting. In this
method, parts of a plant, pre-
groom seedlings or plants
propagated from seeds are
planted initially in a seed bed or
seed bow before transferring it to
the permanent plot or garden area
once it is grown.
TYPES OF
PLANT
PROPAGATION
Sexual Propagation –
propagation using valuable
seeds. These seeds have the
capacity to germinate and grow.
Asexual propagation
– is the production of new plants from leaves,
stems, and roots. It can be done manually,
either naturally or using scientific approach.
EXAMPLES OF ASEXUAL
REPRODUCTION
T- Budding
– a method in which two plants parts, the
mature lateral bud from a scion is attached
to another plant of the same family.
Marcotting
– a method that allows the stem to develop
roots while still on the mother plant.
Cleft Grafting
– a method wherein the union scion from a
mature plant and a stock from a seedling
of same plant family, allow the growth of a
new plant.
The following scientific procedures of
asexual propagation ensure quality
improvement of plant species. The
benefits of the procedure include:
•Early plant maturity
• improved growth and expansion of leaves
canopy
• invulnerable to diseases and pest
infestation
• higher yield
