Approach to Educational
Development

PRESENTED BY: TALHA JABBAR

Introduction

 Importance of Practical Education

 Focus of Current Education System on Theory over Practical

 Hypothesis:
“Formation of a dedicated practical teachings group at university level for
integration of theoretical concepts studied in class with their practical aspects
would help promote active learning among the students and better equip
them for the modern market requirements.”
Current Issues

 Applied education theory lacks proper theoretical learning and

practical value
 Lack of teachers focusing on practical education
 Lack of resources for students’ practice
 Mismatch of theoretical and practical knowledge
 Singular teaching methods
 Low market value of degrees
 Crammed class education
Survey Results …(1)*
Survey Results (Cont.)
 The cited table (see Ref. 1*) just presented shows the results of a
questionnaire survey carried out in China, with a participation of 500
students and 200 teachers from various universities. The
questionnaire focuses on 3 major points: teacher suitability, the ratio
of theoretical knowledge to practical training, and the basis for
evaluation of the curriculum taught. The results show:
 Only 18% of the teachers taught subjects highly relevant to their field.
 Despite the dominant focus on practical training, the practical
knowledge is rarely interlinked with the theory taught, implying
improper practical/theoretical integration.
 Student evaluation is largely based on taught curriculum and practice.
Rarely is the student ever evaluated on the basis of his own conceptual
ability.
Possible Solutions
 Formation of a dedicated teachers’ group focused on a practically-
oriented approach to education would help ensure a coherent link
between the theoretical courses being taught and the practical skills
provided to the students, along with their validity in the modern day
market:
 Arranging teaching courses for teachers focusing on side by side
theoretical/practical teaching
 Revising the curriculum to incorporate direct integration of theoretical and
practical knowledge
 Expanding the available resources: labs, equipment, workshops and tutorials
for teaching of relevant practical skills to students
 Ensuring and enhancing students’ interest in the field via active learning,
giving them an incentive to reflect on their work, promoting self learning
 Encouraging student participation and ideas for innovative learning
 Updating the curriculum and practical designs based on contemporary
market trends
Benefits of a Practically-Oriented
Approach to Education
 Higher technical skill of graduates

 Higher degree value in the market

 Better employment chances for the students

 Better quality of research in the industries with practical-minded

students in the market, which also implies economic prosperity
