Blue Swimming Crab Portunus pelagicus Waste
Shell Reinforced Cement Pavements Free Template From Demplates.com Cement pavements in construction refers to an outdoor floor or superficial surface covering. Common materials for cement pavements include concrete, stones such as flagstone, cobblestone, and setts, artificial stone, bricks, tiles and even asphalts. More affordable than stone, more colorful than brick, and more durable than asphalt, concrete pavers are a practical yet attractive option anywhere on the property. Free Template From Demplates.com One of the most common waste products that recently got the attention of the society both of the seafood and the engineering industry are crab shells.
Crab waste, which is usually
tucked in landfills across the region, has been deemed as a nuisance by environmental regulators. It is not only because of the sheer volume of crab waste, but also the odor emitting from crab shells. Free Template From Demplates.com Among those crabs generating shell waste is the Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus) waste which is very common in the waters of Guimaras Strait and Negros Occidental and has been considered as a major polluter, as 80-90% of its biomass is waste (Gandy, 2010). The concept of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” has become a way of life for different countries around the world. The seafood industry in some countries around the world has mostly shifted to mechanisms relevant to such idea. Free Template From Demplates.com Objectives What is the structural strength and characteristics of the different Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus) shell reinforced pavements in terms of tensile strength, water absorption test, heat reduction test and tensile strength after water absorption test?
Is there a significant difference in the structural
strength of the cement pavements when reinforced with different amounts of Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus) shells in terms of tensile strength, water absorption test, heat reduction test and tensile strength after water absorption test? Free Template From Demplates.com Free Template From Demplates.com Conclusions From the findings of the study determined, the researcher conclude that the set – up with 25 % Cement & 75 % Crab Shell is the most durable and heat efficient set – up compared to other set – ups since it has the highest maximum strength obtained and has the least amount of heat absorbed and is more ideal to be used especially as floor pavements since it absorbs less heat that it also transmit and reflect to objects and humans on top of it. Free Template From Demplates.com Conclusions Also, after the conduct of the tensile strength determination after water absorption test, the same sample with 25 % Cement & 75 % Crab Shell is also the most durable despite of water penetration. Moreover, results on the potential of Crab Shell Reinforced cement pavements show that set ups containing different compositions of cement and crab shell waste vary differently with cement pavements having more crab shell waste being more, durable and heat efficient but are more absorbent of water and are still durable despite of water high percentage of water absorption.
