OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the teachers should
be able to:
• 1. define motion, speed, velocity and acceleration;
• 2. measure the distance, displacement and speed of a moving
object;
• 3. describe the motion of an object in terms of velocity and
acceleration;
• 4. describe Newton’s Laws of Motion;
• 5. create and interpret visual presentation of the motions of
the objects in a graph.
MOTION
• MOTION CAN BE DESCRIBED IN :
• DISTANCE
• DISPLACEMENT
• SPEED
• VELOCITY AND
• ACCELERATION

MOTION
• The concept of motion is qualified by two
quantity scalar and vector.
• Scalar is always described by its magnitude.
• Ex. Speed and Distance.
• Vector is describe both by the magnitude and
direction.
• Ex. Displacement, Velocity and Acceleration

MOTION
• Note:
• Motion can be represented by Graph.
Concepts
Clarification
• All statement about motion depend on the
observer’s frame of reference.
• The relative motion of an object is determined in
relation to reference point.
• The distance and direction of an object’s motion
from the starting point straight to the endpoint is
the objects displacement.
SCIENCE CROSS-SPECIALIZATION Teaching and Learning Division
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FORCE, MOTION AND ENERGY
Concepts
clarification
• The speed of an object tells quickly the object changes
position
• Speed can be determined using speed=distance/time
• Velocity is the speed and the direction of the motion.
• The motion of an object can be represented by a
graph.
Concepts
clarification
• Any change in velocity is an acceleration
• Acceleration can be calculated using
acceleration=final speed-original speed /time.
• Deceleration is decrease in speed.

LAW OF INERTIA
Q1. The box move as the force applied on it.
Q2. As the box moves then suddenly you apply
an opposite force against the box the box will
stop to move.
Q3. In law of inertia the object at rest will not
move if you will not apply force on it. And if the
object is moving it will continue to move and
will not stop unless you applied outside force
on it.
LAW OF ACCELERATION
Q1. 1.46 m/s2
Q2. 0.76 m/s2
Q3. As the mass increase the acceleration
decrease, therefore mass and acceleration
are inversely related if the net force is
constant.
Q4. The acceleration of the object is directly
proportional to the magnitude of the net force
acting on it and inversely proportional to its
mass.

LAW OF INTERACTION
Q1. YES
Q2. The forces are equal
Q3. The force given by the man is also
equal to force given by the box to the
man
