Abstract :
• A GPS based tracking system is an electronic device installed in a vehicle to 
enable the owner or a third party to track the vehicle's location. This project 
proposed to design a GPS based tracking system that works using GPS 
technology, which would be the cheapest source of tracking and it would 
work as anti­theft system. It is an embedded system which is used for 
tracking and positioning of any vehicle by using Global Positioning System 
(GPS) and Global system for mobile communication (GSM).This System will 
continuously monitor a moving Vehicle/human and report the status of the 
Vehicle/human on demand. For doing so we will use a embedded System & a 
server for storing data. A GSM modem is used to send the position (Latitude 
and Longitude) of the vehicle from a remote place. The GPS modem will 
continuously give the data i.e. the latitude and longitude indicating the 
position of the vehicle. 
Objective:
• The objective of this project is routing and tracking vehicle in a large area 
environment based on the global positioning System(GPS)
• To provide a solution to avoid car stolen in the lower cost than advance 
security system.
• To track the route and live status of school bus/ ecommerce products.
• To prevent the theft and building anti theft system.
• Beneficial for commercial vehicle owners to keep track on their moving 
assets, curtail unnecessary expenses on fuel, identify vehicle misuse, 
increase operational efficiency and automate its day to day operations.
Scope:
Global Positioning System has numerous applications. The earliest 
application was military. Many high­end cars have a GPS navigation system 
which serves much the same purpose as a marine GPS.

 Some athletes are turning to GPS to track speed and distance.

 A few digital cameras have a GPS receiver which records the location where 
the picture was taken.

Battery goes down leads to failure of the system, because without power 
system won’t work.

Gps based tracking system helps to identify the issues with transportation.
Domain Description :
• Internet of things(iot):

IoT is  short  for Internet of Things. The  Internet  of  Things  refers  to  the  ever­
growing  network  of  physical  objects  that  feature  an IP   
address for internet connectivity,  and  the  communication  that  occurs  between 
these  objects  and  other  Internet­enabled  devices  and  systems.  The  Internet  of 
things  is  the  network  of  physical  devices,  vehicles,  home  appliances,  and  other 
items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity 
which enables these things to connect, collect and exchange data.

IoT Examples
• Examples of objects that can fall into the scope of Internet of Things include 
connected security systems, thermostats, cars, electronic appliances, lights in 
household and commercial environments, alarm clocks, speaker systems, 
vending machines and more
