 An initiative to encourage companies to manufacture their products in India.

 Contains a raft of proposals designed to get foreign companies to set up shop and
make the country a manufacturing powerhouse.

 Twenty five sectors have been identified as priority areas including Automobile,
construction, Food processing, IT, Defence, Aviation and many more.

 It aims to generate employment.

WORLD AND EXPECTED TO BE AMONGST THE TOP THREE
MANUFACTURING DESTINATION BY 2020.

LABOUR AND ABUNDANT RESOURCES.

POLICIES
The government is positive about the program and
is aligning its goals to further its mission. Following
are some of the policy measures in this regard :
100% FDI has been allowed in medical devices,
telecom sector & single brand retail.
FDI cap has been increased in insurance from
26% to 49%.
49% FDI in Petroleum Refining by PSUs.
Improve and protect the intellectual property rights of innovators and creators by
upgrading infrastructure.
ACHEIVEMENT OF MAKE IN INDIA
• Electric locomotives
• Alstom (France) set up factory
in Madhepura, Bihar [1]
• Maintenance depots at Saharanpur
(Uttar Pradesh) and Nagpur
(Maharashtra)
• Manufacturing strong 12,000 HP
engines for faster freight trains in Indian Railways
2. Diesel locomotives
 General Electric (GE) of USA setting up
factory in Marhowra, Bihar [2]
 Maintenance centers at Roza (UP) and
Gandhidham (Gujarat)
 Manufacturing strong 4,500 HP and
6,000 HP locomotives for Indian Railways
 Production has been started at the end of 2018
3. Military Helicopters
 Boeing (USA) in collaboration
with India’s Tata Aerospace Ltd [4]
 Factory in Hyderabad
 Manufacturing fuselages for
AH-64 Apache helicopters for its
global customers including US

 Gionee and Xiaomi (China) are making their handsets at Foxconn plant
in Andhra Pradesh
 investment from 37 mobile manufacturing companies in the last one
year
 in 2017, India became world’s second largest mobile phone producer
with global handsets produced in India increasing from 3% to 11% within
three years
 Mobile production in India crossed 100-million units, and may cross 500
million in the next two years
 Apple (USA) is about to start manufacturing iPhones in Bengaluru,
Gionee (China) plans to invest Rs. 300 crore over the next three years,
Foxconn is planning to build seven to eight new units in India
