● Washington Learning Center Site Goal: Kindergarten/preschool teachers will
implement the FAST/TS GOLD assessment systems. PLCs will use the data from
FAST/TS GOLD as a tool for guiding instruction and intervention (kindergarten
PRESS reading interventions) to monitor growth.
Goal 1

● Jefferson Elementary Site Goal:


○ Reading - We will increase the broad reading skills of Jefferson students so
that 45% will attain a score at or above the 60%ile as measured by the spring
FAST a Reading assessment by May 17, 2019.
○ Math - We will increase the broad math skills of Jefferson students so that
50% will attain a score at or above the 60%ile as measured by the spring
FAST Math assessment by May 17, 2019.
○ We will reduce the number of behavior incidents by 5% as recorded in the
ViewPoint Discipline Breakdown by Incident Report.

● New Ulm Middle School Site Goal:
○ By spring 2019, New Ulm Middle School will increase the number of students
meeting or exceeding standard by 3% from 48.8% to 51.8% as measured by
the spring 2019 Math MCA Assessment.
○ By spring 2019, New Ulm Middle School will increase the number of students
meeting or exceeding standard by 3% from 60.4% to 63.4% as measured by
the spring 2019 Reading MCA Assessment.

● New Ulm High School Site Goal: By May of 2019, New Ulm High School will
increase the percent of students achieving state standard proficiency or higher, in
Mathematics and Reading, by 3%. The three percent will be calculated using data
from the 2018 MCA Mathematics and Reading scores provided by the Minnesota
Department of Education. The data will be adjusted by excluding the population of
students who opt out of either or both assessments.

● Washington Learning Center Site Goal: Staff will meet as a team to collaborate and
share the needs of the children/families to enable the development of individualized
programming. Staff will use technology to communicate, analyze data, and transform
instruction. Staff will develop their own personalized learning goals and action plan.

● Jefferson Elementary Site Goal: Jefferson Elementary School will support all

learners through the use of effective instructional strategies, standards aligned


curriculum and differentiated instruction.

● New Ulm Middle School Site Goal: By May 2019, NUMS staff will develop and
implement a unit(s) of instruction integrating both technology and personalized
learning activities designed to increase student learning and engagement.

● New Ulm High School: By May of 2019, New Ulm High School staff will complete
their personalized professional learning goal, as part of their professional
development plan. Support will be provided throughout the 18-19 school year to
encourage positive person growth by all.

development of an engaging CTE enterprise program. In year one the CTE
department will investigate multiple programs and develop a process that can be
piloted in 2020.The program/enterprise will include multiple partners within all CTE
curriculum areas.

Goal 1: Increased Student Growth and Achievement
Middle School
★ All 5th and 6th grade students were assigned to a math and reading Positive Intervention and
Enrichment block every other day. All students were placed with students of similar abilities in
each subject. Learning targets and activities were developed to meet the specific needs of the
students in each class.

★ All 5th and 6th grade students were progress monitored every month in math and reading using
the STAR assessment. All 7th and 8th grade students took the STAR assessment 5 times during
the school year in math and reading. This was an increase of progress monitoring for all
students. The student data was analyzed and used to determine instructional next steps for
classes and individual students.

★ 5th grade math teachers worked closely with the middle school principal and Director of Learning
to refine curricular plans and assessments to more closely align with state standards and
increase academic rigor for all 5th grade students.

★ An additional monthly PLC time was added for 5-8 grade departments to meet. Barb Jensen,
Instructional Coach worked closely with all PLC teams to examine and analyze student learning
data at a deeper level. Barb worked with the teams to identify next steps in planning and
instruction.

★ Barb Jensen, Instructional Coach met with all probationary teachers to provide instructional
coaching and literacy support.

Goal 2: Personalized Learning for All.
Middle School

★ All staff wrote a personalized learning goal for their professional development plan.
★ All staff developed an action plan to support their personalized learning goal.
★ All middle school staff participated in ongoing professional development focused on
instructional strategies for personalizing learning for students. This includes using
technology to personalize learning and project based learning.
★ In August, 7 staff members from New Ulm Middle School attended the Personalized
Learning conference located at Chaska High School.
★ Five teachers from New Ulm Middle School visited Southview Middle School in Edina
to learn about Personalized Learning as part of their own personalized learning goal.
Middle School
Key Activities & Outcomes
Goal 3: Building upon the confidence and support of
the community.
★ Media on the Move - New Ulm Middle School partnered with the New Ulm Public Library to provide
all middle school students grades 5-8 with a library card and access to all public library resources.
Public Library books are checked in and out from the New Ulm Middle School Media center. All 5th
grade students took a tour of the public library and are encouraged to visit the library.

★ Student Outreach - Staff and students are encouraged to give back to the community. Examples of
this include middle school students participating in the Day of Caring, Cupid Crew - Delivering
Flowers to local nursing homes, volunteering at local nursing homes and all students participating in
New Ulm Park clean-up as part of our advisory program.

★ Community Experts - New Ulm Middle School continues to partner with community experts to share
their knowledge with students aligned with core curriculum and student learning outcomes.
Examples include - MS Career Fair, Junior Achievement speakers and curriculum at each grade
level, NUCAT partnership and classroom speakers such as food scientists from Firmenich.
Key Activities & Outcomes
New Ulm High School Goal 1
● Math, Science, and Language Arts departments analyzed performance
on each standard and benchmark of the MCAs to determine areas of
deficiency. Action plans were created to increase proficiency in
determined areas.

● Interventions in Reading and Mathematics continue to be in place for


students not meeting standards on MCAs and to increase success both
in their coursework at the high school and on future standardized tests.

● PLCs use multiple sources to review data while make informed


decisions for improve student success.

● Continue to review grading practices as a building to support student


learning. Review PLC/department retake procedures.
New Ulm High School

2019-20 Washington Goals

4. Ed Elements - By May of 2020 all faculty will have completed specific

❖ District assessments - MCA, MTAS, STAR, FAST & ACT will be the measures of student
