What is a good
teacher?
“GOOD TEACHERS ARE
BORN,NOT MADE”

 People who has an affinity for the job.


 Others do not have that natural gift.

 Such teachers learn through:


I. Personality
II. Intelligence

IV.Experience
1. The Teacher as Controller
 Teacher in charge of the class and
of the activity
 Teacher-fronted classroom
All attention is focused on the front
of the class.
All students work at the same beat.
Teachers do most of the talking.
It is vital that control be relaxed if
the students are to be allowed a
chance to learn.
2. The Teacher as Organizer

Teacher should be able to organize


students to do various activities.

Engage Initiate

Instruct Organize
Feedback
Organiser
• Planning.
• Organising the activity.
• Instructions / Rubrics.
• Organisation of an activity can be divided into
different stages:
LEAD IN: Introduction of the activity. The hook.
INSTRUCT: Rubrics: make sure the students have
understood.
Model the activity. (Demonstrate)
Initiate the activity.
Organise feedback.

3. The Teacher as Participant

• Teachers may want to join in activity not as


teachers, but as participants in their own
right.
• Students will enjoy having the teacher with
them.
PARTICIPANT
• Teachers stand back from the activity and
they let their learners to get on with it.
• Feedback / correct mistakes
• It can be enjoyable
4. The Teacher as Assessor
Teachers should be able to offer
feedback, give correction and grades
students in various ways.
5. The Teacher as Prompter
Teachers should be able to
motivate their students
PROMPTER
• Encourage students / Creativity.
• Teachers need to do it
sensitively and encouragingly.
6. The Teacher as Resource
• Teacher will want to be helpful and available
• Teachers answer to some questions from the
students
• Teachers can be one of the most important
resources students have when they :
Ask how to say or write something
Want to know what a word or phrase
means
7. The Teachers as Tutor
• Teachers working with individuals or
small groups
• Teacher will allow more personal contact
and real chance for feel supported and
helped.
TUTOR
• It combines the roles of prompter and
organiser.
• Teachers are advisors.
• The classroom´s atmosphere is greatly
enhanced.
8. The Teachers as Observer
• Even when we are in other roles, we
need to be observing what is going on in
the classroom at the same time
• Be alert at all times to the effects of our
actions and student interactions
• Through constantly observing and
questioning our procedures and looking
out for what leads to successful learning
(and what does not), we can develop as
teachers
WHICH ROLE?
• Teachers need to be able to switch
between the various roles, judging when it
is appropriate to use one or the other
• Teachers need to be aware of how they
carry out the selective role and how they
perform it
The teacher as Performer
“sage on the stage”
• Teachers may also ‘perform’ to different levels at
different times in the classroom
• The teacher can therefore assume a role and act out
that role.

• TASK
• How do you think the teacher should ‘perform’ during
the following tasks? Choose adverbs:

loyalty for the nation.
• We will pay special attention to the
slow learners in the class.
• We will make every child smile and be
happy in our class.
• We will respect the individuality of
every child and encourage them.
