EXCAVATION WORK
BY PLANT
INTRODUCTION
3

 Common use plant such as backhoe, dragline,

excavator, tractor, crane and etc.
 This method is suitable for large excavation work
and large working area.
 It’s cheaper when applied to large excavation
work.
Plant Output
4

 The plant output is depending on:

 the type and characteristic of soil,
 condition of site
 total volume of excavation
 type of plant will be used
5
Output of excavator
Capacity of Bucket Output (m3/hour)
( m3 )
¼ 8
3/8 9
½ 12
¾ 18
1 25

6
The adjustment for output of
excavator

Type of soil Multiply factor

Sand x 1.00
Clay x 1.25
Soft rock (Batu lembut) x 1.50

Gravel x 4.50

7
Lifecycle Of Plant

Plant Age

Backhoe/excavator 5 years
Lorry and Dumper 4 years

PURCHASE PLANT
IMPLICATION COST
(PURCHASE PLANT)

CAPITAL COST

OPERATIONAL COST

11
A. CAPITAL
12 COST
 Calculation of plant should consider :
 Initial plant cost
 Interest of loan and age/lifecycle of plant
 Plant operational cost
 Salvage value / Resale value
 Maintenance cost
 Transportation cost
B. OPERATIONAL COST
13

 Fuel cost such as diesel and hydraulic oil

 Labour wages should calculate for driver
and worker / assistant

EXAMPLE OF PURCHASE PLANT

 Excavate oversite to reduced level maximum depth
not exceeding 1.00 meter. - m³
14

Data :
Initial cost – RM150,000
Interest on loan – 10%
Lifecycle of plant – 5 years
Resale value – RM8,000
Average plant works – 200 days / year

Hydraulic oil - 14 litre/week ; RM20 /litre
Operator - 1 person ; RM 50.00/day
Plant output - 12 m³/hour
P&O – 15%
15

RENTAL PLANT
IMPLICATION COST
(RENTAL PLANT)

RENTAL COST

OPERATIONAL COST

16
A. RENTAL COST
 Rental cost per day or
17 per hour

B. OPERATIONAL COST
 Fuel cost such as diesel and hydraulic
oil
 Labour wages should calculate for
driver and worker
