TV WHITE SPACES

WHITE SPACES

The white spaces are channels

not used by the open TV in some
geographical areas that can be
used for other applications,
without causing interference or
claiming protection with respect
to the TV.
OBJECTIVE

Increasing the white space

technology is the best opportunity for
the efficient use of spectrum to
increase connectivity in different
areas of Colombia
27 million for 2018.

optimal use of the spectrum

so that the benefits for
Colombian society are
maximized.

only 9.4% of rural households

have an internet connection.

An increase of 10% with the

use of broadband internet
1.2% of the PIB of a country.
ACCESS

Speaking of the connectivity

and access of this project goes
to all public because this
would be a public service that
will be taken to all households
in Colombia and so low-income
people would have the right to
use this service.
IMPULSE TO TECHNOLOGICAL
NEUTRALITY

This project would be a big boost

for technology in Colombia and
would have a great impact on the
economy because the use of white
spaces would help companies to
reach any area that does not have
this service and be able to
implement it according to the
parameters of the state.
EFFICIENT USE OF THE SPECTRUM

The service has enough

available spectrum but for this
to work properly we must take
into account: network
planning, location of internet
access, internet speed,
existing infrastructure, terrain
relief.
EXAMPLE WHITE SPICE

In an area you can see the following TV channels:

In this area the channels, 29,32,33,37,38,40, are not being

used by the TV, so they are called “white spaces".
PILOT PROOFS IN COLOMBIA

In Colombia, three pilot

tests were already carried
out to provide broadband
internet in remote areas:
La Guajira
Norte de Santander
Caldas
INSTALLATION TESTS

we must bear in mind with the

devices:

- Aim the antennas well.

- Perform communication tests to
ensure maximum data speed.
- Electrically land the devices.

- Have remote management to

monitor the devices
NORMATIVITY

only fixed devices are allowed

maximum power of the antenna 12,6

dbm/ 100 kHz

maximum antenna gain 14dbd

Maximum height of antenna on tower
50 meters.

Maximum height above the average

of the terrain of 800 meters.

Responsibility to solve any

interference.
