Balanced and

Unbalanced FORCES
Q&A!
 What makes objects move the
way they do?
 Why do objects moves in different
ways? Why are some objects
move faster than the others?
 What makes objects stays in
place?
PUT THE BALL ON TOP
DO IT! OF THE TABLE.

 QUESTIONS:
 Will this object move by itself?
 How can we make this object move?
 While it is moving, how can we make it
speed up or slow down?
 How can you make it stop?
 How can we make it change its
direction?
What is a force?

 A force is a push or pull that causes an

object to move, stop, or change direction

 In physics a force is anything that makes an

object accelerate.
Force
Forces have a magnitude and a
direction.
Magnitude- refers to the size or
strength of the force. (N- Newton)
Direction- is indicated by an
arrow.
 Example:

5N, north (up)

Magnitude: 5N
Direction: north (up)
Force

 Forces occur in pairs.

Activity 1. Forces on objects at rest.

 OBJECTIVE:
 After performing the activity, you
should be able to identify the
forces acting on an objects at rest.

 MATERIALS: pen, string, book,

pair of scissors
Activity 1. Forces on objects at rest.

 Post Activity Discussion

Balanced Forces
 Balanced forces do not cause
change in motion
 They are equal in size and opposite
in direction
Unbalanced Forces
An unbalanced force always causes a change in
motion

When unbalanced forces act in opposite

directions you can find the net force
 Net force
 Magnitude
 The difference between the two forces

 Direction
 Direction of the largest force
Unbalanced Forces

3 N, right – 6 N, left = 3N, left

Unbalanced Forces

4 N, left – 10 N, right = 6N, right

Unbalanced Forces

5 N, right + 10 N, right =15N, right
