• Tropical zone the
temperature-is warmer
than 18 degrees Celsius
and we have only two
seasons
• The Wet (rainy) and dry
(sunny)
• TEMPERATE
• when the coldest month has a
mean temperature above −3
°C (26.6 °F) but below 18
°C(64.4 °F).
• temperate climate have four
seasons: summer, autumn,
winter and spring.
• POLAR CLIMATE
• has an average temperature
of less than 10 °C (50 °F).
Regions with polar climate
cover more than 20% of the
Earth..

I. OBJECTIVE: Explain how latitude affects climate.

Study the illustration below.
A. Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative Assessment)
II. QUESTIONS:
Q1. How much is the tilt of the earth’s axis?
Q2. Which part of the earth receives most of the sun’s rays?
Q3. Why does the amount of heat receive by places far from
the equator become less?
Q4. Why are the coldest places on earth found near the
poles?
Q5. Why are places with high temperature found at the
equator?
Q6. How does latitude affect climate?
.
A. Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative Assessment)
II. QUESTIONS:
Q1. How much is the tilt of the earth’s axis?
Ans. The earth’s axis tilt 23.5°
Q2. Which part of the earth receives most of the sun’s rays?
Ans. The Equator receives most of the sun’s rays.
Q3. Why does the amount of heat receive by places far from the
equator become less?
Ans. It is due to the tilting of the earth’s axis and the shape of
the earth.
A. Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative Assessment)
II. QUESTIONS:
Q4. Why are the coldest places on earth found near the poles?
Ans. They receive less amount of heat.
Q5. Why are places with high temperature found at the equator?
Ans. Due to the tilting of the earth’s axis, places near the equator
receive more heat making the air temperature higher.
Q6. How does latitude affect climate?
Ans. When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is
lower resulting in a cold climate. When the place is closer to the
equator, the air temperature is higher which results in a warm climate.
III. CONCLUSION:
When the area is farther from the equator the
air temperature is lower resulting in a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air
temperature is higher which results in a warm
climate.
Given the World Map look for the following Countries and Identify their location on
the map/globe (degrees latitude) and the climate (Temperate, Tropical or Polar)

2. Mongolia _____________ ___________
3. Indonesia _____________ ___________
4. Canada _____________ ___________
5. Greenland _____________ ___________
B. Explain how Latitude affects climate?
When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower resulting in
a cold climate.
When the place is closer to the equator, the air temperature is higher which results
in a warm climate.
Given the World Map look for the following Countries and Identify their
location on the map/globe (degrees latitude) and the climate.

Countries Location (° latitude) Climate
1. Philippines 15⁰ Tropical
2. Mongolia 46⁰ Temperate
3. Indonesia .78⁰ Tropical
4. Canada 60⁰ Temperate
5. Greenland 75⁰ Polar
B. Explain how Latitude affects climate?
When the area is farther from the equator the air temperature is lower
resulting in a cold climate.
