• Around 15% of industrial energy demand has been met by biomass energy sources
in Nepal.
• These, resources mainly includes fire wood, agricultural residue and industrial
wastes consumed directly in its available form or by transforming it into some
other energy sources like briquette, charcoal etc.
• Some of the industries using biomass fuel for industrial product processing and
manufacturing are:
– ceramic industries, brick kiln, wool dyeing, dairy and dairy product procesing, coffee
production, tea drying, dalmoth making, rice mills, sugar industris, tobacco curing,
paper pulp making, essential oil and vegetable ghee processing, jewellery and metal
craft production etc.
• Basically two categories of technologies are found to be used for biomass
combustion in SMEs.
– Direct combustion technologies
• Cook stove / heating stove
• Furnace/Boilers/ Oven
– Indirect combustion technologies
• Gasifier technology
