The field of involves the use of computer in a language learning process . Call programs
aim to teach aspects of the language learning process through the medium of
computer….

CALL: AN INTERDICIPLINARY DOMIAN .
• It draws on psychology and second language acquisition .
• PSYCHOLOGY . Call practitioners should understand the part played by the different
theories of language learning ( behaviourists, nativist, interactionist ) so that a
suitable one can be chosen to aid the learning process.
• SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUITION( SLA )
• Second language acquisition is the study of how a second language is acquired .
• It also studies interlanguage ( IL ) which is the systematic knowledge of L2 that is
independent of both the target language and the learners L1 and the effects of L1 on
L2 learning.
• IL have been shown to exhibit common acquisition orders and developmental
sequences, while further research is often needed in SLA literature, such findings
ought to b considered by CALL Practitioners.
 Another area of mutual interest is the factors such as age, aptitude, social psychological factors (
motivation and attitude ) , personality, cognitive style have been studied
 Instrumental Motivation ( In which a learning is motivated to learn an L2 for utilitarian purposes
such as ( furthering a career or improving social status ).
 Integrative motivation ( when the learner wishes to identify with other ethnolinguistic group ).
 One of the problem of this area of SLA and CALL is the difficulty of measuring individual learning
variables .
