Chapter I
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY
Students’ behavior is problem that cannot
be regarded as trivial. The problem of students
bringing weapons to school as the issue. One
of the problems that is commonly observe to
the performance of the students is being
inactive to class participation. Sleep
deprivation become one of the causes of this
kind of behavior.
Sleep deprivation is common problem that can
greatly impact a students’ physical and mental
health and school performance and may cause
executive function impairments. A 2006 survey by
the National Sleep Foundation reported that more
than 87 percent of high school students get far less
than the recommended eight to 10 hours.
Moreover, the trend indicates the amount of time
they sleep is decreasing.
There are many living conditions that
can disrupt sleep. A range of life-style
and physiological factors can be disrupt
sleep. The many pressures and
commitments that students must manage
during school are likely strong
contributors to sleep deprivation.
The researchers target to have the survey
sheets will be the Senior High School of
Universidad de Sta. Isabel and will used
frequency distribution table to be able to know
the factors that affects their performance in
school.
STATEMENT OF
THE PROBLEM
1.How sleep deprivation affects the performance of
the students?
2.What are the factors affecting the students to lack
their sleep?
3.What will be the conditions after knowing the
factors affecting the performance of the students?
4.Why students tend to disregard the recommend
hours of sleep?

AND
DELIMITATION
This study focuses on Sleep Deprivation
Affects the Performance of Students
specifically the senior high school of
Universidad de Sta. Isabel. The researchers
choose random sampling as the time frame of
the study which will be the basis of the result
of the statement of the problem.
SIGNIFICANCE
OF THE
STUDY
The study of Sleep Deprivation Affects the
Performance of Students can be a learning
cognizant to all the affected students to lessen the
numerous factors contributing sleep loss. The
findings of the study will redound to the benefit of
society as well as the students.
This study distinguish several factors that trigger
them to deprive from proper sleeping hours. The
goal of the study is designed to help students be
aware of possible effects of depriving sleep and
eventually result to improve more their academic
competence and class participation as well.
