• On January 22, 2016 is the day when our
Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi
announced this scheme.
• This scheme aims at SAVING GIRL CHILD
EDUCATING THEM and LET THEM PLAY.
• Reason to implement this scheme was due
to declining in sex ratio of females.
• Sex ratio in India during the year 2011 it
was 940 females per 1000 of males.
• What is the reason for declining in sex
ratio?

SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA(SSY)
• The sukanya samriddhi yojana which
is also known by the name of ‘child
Prosperity Scheme’
• The prime goal of this scheme is to
give focus on girls child higher
education and marriage.
• One of the key benefit of this scheme
is the interest rate that is offered, i.e.
9.2% per year.
BENEFITS
• TAX BENEFITS
• Maximum of Rs. 1,50,000 is exempted from tax under sec 80C of IT act,
1961
• Interest gained + the maturity amount is also tax free!

• SECURITY
• The girl is entitled to the money accumulated, which can be used for her
higher education
• Interest will be paid even after maturity amount under certain
conditions.
HOW TO GET SSY- THE PROCEDURE
• ELIGIBILITY
• The child must be a girl
• She should be an Indian citizen
• She must be under or 10 years old at the time of opening this account

• DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
• Child’s Birth Certificate
• Identity proof of guardians
• Proof of address of guardians

• It can be opened at any post offices in India


• The parents or legal guardians are allowed to operate the account on behalf of girl, till she
turns 10. Afterwards, she can operate her account herself if she chooses too.
OTHER MUST KNOW FACTS
• One can invest in this scheme for 14 years. However, the child will keep
getting interest even after 14 years, till the time she gets married.
• No premature withdrawal is allowed. However,50% of the deposit
amount can be withdrawn if that goes for child’s higher education or
marriage expenses

• One account per girl can be opened

• A parent or guardian can open maximum 2 accounts, even though they


have 3 daughters.
Lock in period is little high

The account is limited to just

POSITIVE SIDE

• This is a very good initiative taken by government ,


where a girl has a whole scheme to take care of her
higher education and marriage expenses.
• It provides a backbone for the girl child till she gets
married.
PREMATURE CLOSURE ALLOWED ONLY IN
THESE SCENARIOS:
SCENARIOS REQUIREMENTS

• If a girl child gets married after attaining 18 • Application to be filled before 1 month of
years marriage or within 3 month of marriage along
with age proof documents.

• If a girl child passes away(death) • Death certificates should be produced and the
balance amount in SSY will be given to
guardian or parents.

• If a girl child becomes non resident or non • Status should be communicated by girl child or
citizen of India parents/guardians.

• If parents or guardians unable to continue the • extreme compassionate grounds like life
account threatening diseases or medical exigencies.
CONCLUSION
The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana scheme, however, puts
few conditions on prematurely closure of the account so
that parents and legal guardians somehow continue the
account forward to make sure that the future of the girl
child is safe and that her higher education or marriage
does not fall as a financial burden on the parents.
