What is PLC?
• A group of educators that meets regularly, shares
expertise and works collaboratively to improve
teaching skills and the academic performance of
students
• A professional development method/strategy to
foster collaborative learning among colleagues
• A tool for developing cultures of success in schools

Importance

Limitations, Prohibitions
• Since PLC sessions are aimed at the
continuous professional development of
teachers, the conduct of PLC sessions
shall be limited to the purposes as
stated. Prohibited purposes may include
but not limited to the following: sale of
goods and other merchandize, lending
transactions, political and religious
meetings, mobile games, etc

How do PLCs work?
• Teachers are organized into grade level, course specific, or
interdisciplinary collaborative teams
• They work interdependently to achieve common goals for which members
are mutually accountable
• They commit to meeting regularly to evaluate learning goals and
outcomes
• They establish common behavior expectations

• They define learning expectations (what do we want students to learn?)

• They create common assessment calendars. (How do we measure student


learning?)
