COMMON CURRICULUM

Christian Alvarado Flores

Educ 150 – 001W
Why This Program?
This program helps template base lesson plans and organizes those lessons into a
teaching calendar. I believe as an educator, you have to be able to structuralize your
lessons, and add subjects such as: objectives to the lesson, procedures for the
lesson, instruction on how to proceed, assign homework, etc. Not only that but
organize days of the week for those lessons, as well as time of day. Knowing when
to start and end a lecture, due dates for assignments, in class quizzes, and time for
students to study for an upcoming test. These are all valid variables that make a
good teacher.
Launch Date
The online program was released on July 11, 2014.
What Does This Program Do?
◦ This program is an online planner for organizing and structuralizing classes, lessons, and assignments for
teachers to use in the classroom for their own discretion on how to teach their students.
◦ It is very useful for teachers if they want to plan a course long term and wish to plan every detail of that
course into this program.
◦ It is available through any browser on a desktop or mobile device.
◦ It is free for teachers, and it costs $99 per teacher per year for schools to be able to collaborate with groups
within their school.

What does it do?
◦ Common Curriculum helps adjusts teachers and school to make lessons easier
and more collaborative, reducing the burden of getting and receiving feedback.
◦ Adjusts teaching calendar in case of unforeseen circumstances.
◦ Add classes, choose start and end dates for those classes, schedule classes for
certain days and times.
◦ Visual layouts are presented for those classes.
◦ Can edit individual lessons.
◦ Provides a variety of simplistic and artistic templates
How This Helps ME
◦ I like to plan out and organize every project I can, this program will help me long
term regarding how to start a lesson, plan an assignment, determine what proper
times to plan them, and what small details I can include in between unit lessons.
◦ The program’s access and affordability is key in its creation, because it requires no
effort to set up an account, and is within reach do in part of the internet being so
accessible to anyone, as well as the chance to have this program for free with a
variety of options is very lucrative for the me to use.
Challenges
◦ You have to be a teacher in order to get the full free access to the program, if I
teach as a student teacher, this could be difficult because I will not have access to
the all the features, templates, and editing options.
◦ The program is designed for K – 12, there is no mention of being able to use this
in college where I would like to teach my profession, however I have seen videos
of professors using this program regardless.
Drawbacks?
◦ There are other programs available that offer more options regarding class, unit,
and lesson planning, with higher quality designs, templates, and with a little to no
cost value.
◦ There is no clarity that the program is available to student teachers with the full
access that it promises to certified teachers
◦ The other drawback I could possibly notice with this program is the lack of
imagination of the teacher using it. The program is designed for the individual,
and how they use it, is up to them.
