Digital Ethics – As a digital
citizen, the digital learner is
guided by principles that
would help him/her do right
decisions. Before he/she clicks,
he/she thinks.
A problem is not necessarily solved because the correct answer has
been made. A problem is not truly solved unless the learner
understands what he has done and knows why his actions were
appropriate.” — William A. Brownell, The Measurement of
Understanding (1946)
The 4D’s of Problem Solving

Define the problem- How to

convert one unit to another unit
using short method.
What do you need to find out?
What do you know?
What would be a reasonable
estimation?
Do the work
Show your work.
Design the
solution-
Example:
King Henry Died
Until Drinking
Chocolate Milk
Defend you answer Explain why your
answer makes sense. Check for
reasonableness.
Do the Work-
After explaining the short method give
student an activity that can use if they
understand the short method.
Debrief on the outcome-
It is not hard to convert to
another unit because there is
another option which is the
short method.
