Dangerous Goods

• Dangerous goods are the articles and


substance which can pose a risk to health,
safety property, or the environment. Such as
match box, acid, alcoholic beverages, or
perfumes…
Classes of DGR
• There are nine classes of DGR:

1. Explosive
2. Gases
3. Flammable Liquids
4. Flammable solids
5. Oxidizing substance and Organic peroxides
6. Toxic and Infectious Substance
7. Radioactive Materials
8. Corrosives
9. Lithium batteries
Marking labeling and other Requirement

• Different countries and operators impose variations


on the transportation of Dangerous Goods. It is
mandatory to warn the passengers against the type
of dangerous good which are forbidden onboard
an aircraft.
Marking labeling and other Requirement
• When you are accepting or boarding passengers,
you should note the marks and labels on
passengers baggage. Such baggage must be
stopped and the content must be checked.

• If found with contents which are doubtful, seek


clarification from passenger. If the contents are
identified as a non-dangerous, remove or obliterate
any irrelevant marks or labels on the package:
Marking labeling and other Requirement
• Particular attention must be paid to the following:

• Markings start with UN or ID Number


• Names of Chemical
• Markings start with UN number
• Marking with ‘Y’ symbol placed in the center of the
diamond.
• Diamond and rectangular shaped labels.

Displaying hazards labels
• The labels must be in the form of square set at the
angle of 45 (diamond shaped).

The hazard text indicating the nature
of the risk is inserted in the lower
half of the hazard labels. This text
should be inserted with the class or
division number and should be in
English language.
Displaying Handling labels
• Magnetized Material Labels:

• The magnetized material labels must be used on


packages and over packs containing magnetized
materials

• Cargo aircraft Only Labels:

• The 'Cargo aircraft only’ label must be used on


packages containing dangerous goods that are
permitted only on Cargo Aircraft.
Emergency Response Procedures
• The general Dangerous goods emergency response
procedures comprises of the following:

1. First, Notify your immediate supervisor


2. Identify the dangerous goods if it is safe to do so.
3. Isolate the package by removing other packages
or property, after you confirm that it is safe to do
so.
4. Isolate the area and inform emergency services as
per local procedures.
5. Avoid contact with the contents of the package.

• In case you come contact with the hazardous
material:

1. Inform appropriate authorities.


2. Wash that part of body with plenty of water.
3. Remove contaminated piece of clothing.
4. Do not eat or smoke
5. Keep hands away form mouth, nose and eyes
6. Seek medical assistance.
7. Stay on site until your name is noted down.
