Who is Eisenhower?
Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of USA.
Served two terms from 1953 to 1961.
He launched programs that directly led to the
development of the Interstate Highway System in the
United States, the internet (DARPA), the exploration of
space (NASA), and the peaceful use of alternative energy
sources (Atomic Energy Act).
Eisenhower had an incredible ability to sustain his productivity not just for
weeks or months, but for decades.
His most famous productivity strategy is known as the Eisenhower Box
The Difference Between Urgent and Important
Urgent means that a task requires immediate attention, usually
associated with achieving someone else's goals.
These are the to-do’s that shout “Now!” .
Urgent tasks put us in a reactive(rigid) mode.
(phone calls, tasks with impending deadlines, and situations where you
have to respond quickly. Responding to an email, when you have to do
it, is usually an urgent task.
Important tasks are things that contribute to our long-term mission,
values, and goals.
Important activities have an outcome that leads to us achieving our
goals, whether these are professional or personal.
important activities put us in a responsive(flexible) mode, which
helps us remain calm, rational, and open to new opportunities.
The Eisenhower Box: How to be More Productive
The Eisenhower Matrix, also referred to as Urgent-
Important Matrix, helps anyone decide on and
prioritize tasks by urgency and importance, sorting
out less urgent and important tasks which you
should either delegate or not do at all.
Eisenhower Principle:
The urgent are not important, and the important are never
urgent.
