Pakistan Green Building Council is A national not-for-profit,
non-government organization that is part of a global
network
DO YOU KNOW?
• Building and construction sector are
responsible for almost 40% of global
greenhouse gas emissions.
• And that is only today by 2060, the floor area
of buildings will be double, adding more than
230 billion m2 in new building construction.
GREEN BUILDING ECONOMY AND
INVESTMENT

• It is predicted that energy efficiency in building

and appliances can reduce 1.6 Gt CO2 in 2020
and up to 7Gt CO2 in 2050.
• In terms of region, the fastest growing regional
green building market is Asia.
• Over 85% firms expect rapid or steady growth in
sales and profit levels associated with green
building.
• Green Building is a win – win situation for all
stake holders: developers, builders, policy makers
and the world as whole.
World-GBC Collective Commitment for COP21
Buildings account for about a third of C02 emissions, and will continue to
rise under a business-as-usual scenario. To play its part in limiting global
temperature increase to 2 degrees, the sector must reduce emissions by
84 GtC02 by 2050.
Green Building is the solution.
Cost-effective, it generates wide economic, health, and social benefits for
all

• We - World Green Building Council, national Green Building Councils

and member companies - commit to mobilising a global market
transformation in order to advance by 2030 and achieve by 2050 two
fundamental goals:
1. Net Zero carbon new building
2. Energy efficiency and deep refurbishment of existing stock

To Pakistan Green Government Buildings
In comparison to the average commercial building1:
 Green buildings use 26% less energy
 Green buildings have 13% lower maintenance costs
 Green buildings have 27% higher occupant satisfaction
 Green buildings have 33% less greenhouse gas emissions

Why Build Green in the Public Sector?

Lead by Example. Promote local market transformation by using best

practices in construction, operation and maintenance of government
owned or leased buildings.

Reduce Operations and Maintenance Costs Over the Life of a Building.

Energy and water efficient design paired with green operations practices
reduce operations and maintenance costs over the entire life of the
building.

Extend Infrastructure Capacity. Green buildings lessen the demands on

infrastructure through waste and storm water management efforts.

Reduce Staff-related Overhead and Relocation Costs. Improved indoor

air quality, natural light and flexible design can contribute positively to
staff satisfaction and productivity, reduce absenteeism, improve
employee retention and reduce the costs associated with employee
relocation.
PAKISTAN GREEN BUILDING GUIDELINES PROGRAM

In Pakistan, The Green Building Practices are

getting in stream of Pakistan construction
industry through foreign industrial benefits or
requirements. However, Pakistan green building
council took this initiative and provided a
platform for national, international & government
bodies and organization to gather on a single
platform. Now, with collective efforts and hard
work the Pakistan Green Building Council has
developed country’s first Green Building
Guidelines and the draft version of PGBG v-1 is
open for public review. Currently these practices
would be voluntary and believed to set
sustainable building practices, standards and
awareness among masses. On the regulatory side,
Pakistan, has building code of Pakistan energy
provisions 2011 developed by ENERCON in
collaboration with Pakistan Engineering Council.

Changes to the Rating Systems: The main purpose of these guidelines is
– New Categories to promote:
– New version of LEED Online – Sustainable use of natural resources,
– Encourages regenerative &
restorative policies,
maximize the positive and minimize the
negative environmental and human
health values of the building industry
and provide high quality indoor

The Pakistan Green Building Guidelines objective is to encourage the
construction of green buildings through policies designed to address
following seven objectives:

1. Global climate change.

2. Improvement of individual human health and well-being.

3. Protect and restore the water resources.

4. Improve and reestablish biodiversity and ecosystem services.

5. Sustainable and regenerative material resources cycle

6. Build greener economy

7. Enhance social worth, environmental justice, community health, and quality of life.
GREEN GUIDELINE CERTIFICATION PROCESS
 Owner selects the rating system

 Registers the project.

 The project is then designed to meet the requirements for fundamentals and credits

 Documentation submission for certification,

 Initial review

 Final reviews .
Green Guidelines Has Four Certification Levels, Which Depends On The PointS That
Threshold Achieved:
 Silver, 40-49 points Total Metrix points = 100
 Gold, 50-59 points
 Platinum, 60-69 points
