EXHAUST FOR

HELIUM/CDA
BOMBING TEST
CHAMBER
a project proposal by:
Jhon Loyd I. Tenorio
BS ECE 4-1
INTRODUCTION
▹The bombing test is a special leak
test for small and previously
hermetically sealed parts which
contains internal devices. 2

▹To get helium or compressed dry air

(CDA) into these test pieces which are
already tight, a large quantity of parts
are placed into a pressure chamber
and this chamber (bomb) is filled with
helium/CDA to a certain pressure.
INTRODUCTION
▹The test pieces are
being subjected to
fine leak testing and 3

gross leak testing

after they had
undergo bomb
testing.

GROSS LEAK TESTER

FINE LEAK
TESTER 4
BACKGROUND
▹Excelitas Technologies Philippines, Inc. performs
leak testing to ensure that the devices (such as
photodetectors) had been sealed properly 5
(hermetically sealed) by fabrication and coating.
The company believes that a loss of hermeticity is
a reliability concern and will allow moisture and
contaminants to enter the package cavity
shortening device lifetime.
BACKGROUND
▹CDA/Helium Bombing Test Chamber is located
along the hallway and beside the Metal Can
(Clean Room) at the third floor of the building of 6
Excelitas Technologies Philippines, Inc.
▹Gross/Fine Leak Tester on the other hand is
located inside the Clean Room.

THE PROBLEM
▹ Helium/CDA bombing test
chamber cannot be placed
inside the clean room
because these gases can 8

produce electrostatic
charges.
▹ Sensitive test pieces may be
contaminated by any
harmful factors (such as dirt)
outside the clean room.
OBJECTIVES
TO MINIMIZE TO AVOID
the wasted time any potential
and motion of the factors that can 9

operators due to harm the test

PROJECT DESIGN
• CDA/Helium bombing
test chamber will be
placed inside the cabinet
as shown in the figure at
the right. 1
1
• The cabinet contains an
exhaust fan that will
consume CDA/Helium
gases after the operator
releases the pressure
inside the bombing test Exhaust Fan
chamber.
PROJECT DESIGN
• The cabinet contains two normally
close switches S1 and S2 connected
in series. Closing the cabinet results in S2
an open circuit condition.
• Opening the two glass panels of the
cabinet untriggers S1 and S2 therefore 1

MATERIALS NEEDED
• Stainless Steel
• Glass Panels
• Exhaust Fan S2
• Normally closed switches
• Wires (capable of conducting 220VAC)

KEY PERSONNEL
▹Equipment Engineering Department is
capable of implementing this project since it
only requires simple type of materials.
▹Operators can use these equipments at ease.
