CLIMATE CHANGE

SUBJECT – TECHNICAL REPORT WRITING (p.p.t presentation)

SECTION – ECE (2B)
ROLL NO. (61– 70)
WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?

The climate change phenomenon

refers to seasonal changes over a
long period with respect to the
growing accumulation of
greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere. Tackling this
phenomenon is of utmost
importance given the pivotal role
that climate plays in the formation of
natural ecosystems and the human
economies and civilizations on
which they are based.

 The minimum duration is 30 years for considering a climate

change. Its purely based on historical conditions.
SOME MAIN CAUSE OF CLIMATE CHANGE :

1) The greenhouse effect: natural and

enhanced.

2) biotic processes (methane generation).

3) variations in solar radiation received by

Earth.

4) volcanic eruptions.
SUNLIGHT REFLECTION: ALBEDO

Albedo is an expression of
the ability of surfaces to
reflect sunlight (heat from
the sun). Light-colored
surfaces return a large part
of the sunrays back to the
atmosphere (high albedo).
Dark surfaces absorb the
rays from the sun (low
albedo).
**Low albedo (dark surfaces) leads to
higher uptake of energy

EFFECTS ON SPECIES
Tiger number in the wild life have declined to as
few as 3,200, largely due to poaching and habitat
loss. Climate change is likely to result in increasing
sea levels and risk of fire in the already fragmented
habitats.

Warming in the Himalayas has already occurred at three times the

global average. This is prime snow leopard habitat and continued
warming will cause to shrink treeline in hills .

EFFECT ON WATERBODY:

CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE ARCTIC

 Average air temperatures in the region have

increased by about 5°C over the last 100 years.
Recent data shows that there’ll be almost no
summer sea ice cover left in the Arctic in the next
few decades. The effects won't just be felt by the
habitats and species such that rely upon this
area - they'll be dramatic in the entire northern
hemisphere.

MANY MORE OTHER EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE:
 Frost-free season (and
growing season) will
lengthen
 Changes in precipitation
patterns
 Hurricanes will become
stronger and more intense
 Sea level will rise 1-4 feet by
2100
 Arctic likely to become ice-
free
 EL-NINO(HIGHER
TEMPERATURE)
EFFECT ON FOREST-BODIES

 The effects of global

warming on
temperature,
precipitation levels, and
soil moisture are turning
many of our forests into
kindling during wildfire
season.
 As the world warms, we
can expect more
wildfires
PROTEST AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE:

 Push for reduced methane emissions from

fracked gas.
 Get charged up with renewables.
 Consume less, waste less, enjoy life more
 Fly less (if you do fly, make sure
you offset your emissions). [zada urro maat]
 At least sow a plant every month.
 Use biodegradable element.
CONCLUSION:
Sustainability is essentially about maintaining Earth’s ecological and other
biophysical life-support systems. If these systems decline, human population
wellbeing and health will be jeopardised. Technology can buy time, but
nature’s bottom-line accounting cannot be evaded. We must live within Earth’s
limits.
