NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES ENCOUNTERED WITH INDIVIDUAL/GROUP/SOCIETY FROM
DIFFERENT CULTURE AND HOW IT HAS BEEN HANDLED
Situation based on personal experiences

 Experience with my employer where there is no special allocation space for


prayer room to performing daily prayers , particularly at mid afternoon and
evening.
 Furthermore, lunch hour break end time on Friday is equivalent to rest of the
weekday working day namely around 13.30 pm, which is on that day, Friday
Prayer compulsory to be implemented by muslims and only completed by
14.00 pm
 The last one, there is some task for me involving to carry liquor bundled with
the hamper to be sent to the customers and business partner as a token of
gratitude from my employer. It was forbidden to my religion practice to
involving with any liquor activities such as drink, produce, selling, buying or
even carrying it along with us.
How I handle the situation

 I’m with the other muslim staff meet with the representative of the human
resources unit to discsuss several issues regarding our concern of religion’s affair
as our employer was mainly from different culture’s background which are
based on Europe.
 All the issues such as special allocation space for prayer room, lunch hour break
end time on Friday and lastly the concern about carrying the liquor have been
brought to the meeting room and been discussed thoroughly to achieve the
absolute solution for all staff there. Bear in mind that we have foreign workers in
here that mostly are also consist of muslim and share same culture as Malaysians.
 At the end of the day, our employer was fully agreed and commited to ensure
our welfare concerning the religion’s matters been fulfilled. The employer admit
that they never employ the muslim staff before and will take it as a learning
curve for their futher improvement as a multi national firm entity. There is no such
provocation and backlash happens during the discussions as we practicing our
best approach of communication skills, involving the adaptation in multicultural
society knowing there are several constraints and challenges that might
happens as well.
