PLATE
TECTONICS
SUMMARY
According to the plate
tectonics model, the entire
lithosphere of the Earth is
broken into numerous
segments called plates.
Each plate is slowly but
continuously moving
As a result of the motion of
the plates, three types of
plate boundaries were
formed: Divergent,
Convergent and Transform
fault boudaries.
Transform fault is characterized
by plates that are sliding past
each other.
Divergent Convergent
Boundary that Boundary is
is formed of present when
when plates two plates
move apart, collide.
creating a zone
of tension.
Plate tectonics give rise to several
geologic features and events.

5. What geologic event is most
likely to happen at the given
type of plate boundary in

7. You were asked to locate
the epicenter of a recent
earthquake. Which correct
sequence of events should
you follow?
i. Determine the difference in the
arrival time of S and P waves
recorded from each of the
seismological stations.
ii. Use the triangulation method to
locate the center.
iii. Obtain data from three different
seismological stations.

epicenter from the station.
