Gospel according to St. Matthew 9:9-13

Jesus called Matthew, a tax collector, to be his

disciple. This is an example that we should be
doing to others who are being neglected or
stereotyped by the society: not all sinners are
sinner themselves and the mercy and
compassion that Jesus have shown to this
person encompasses the reality that we all
need these things in this world.

Jesus, in the gospel, challenges us to be

merciful like the Father, to be a doctor to
those who need our healing and comfort
and to be the image of God, the merciful
and compassionate.
