 These are games commonly played by


children, usually using native materials or
instruments.
 Due to limited resources of toys of
Filipino children, they usually come up on
inventing games without the need of
anything but the players themselves.

that originated in the Philippines
and it has elements of both
dodgeball and tag, and it teaches
children strategic thinking.

How do you play this game?


How to play Tumbang Preso:
• The game is played by placing the can in the
designated spot, usually at the center where the
“it” has to stand near the can.
• The rest of the players has to hit the can with the
slipper a few feet away.
• When the can is hit the “it” has to run after and
tag the other players.

game?
The game has two goals designated
accordingly among the players and the
“it”. The it has to keep the can
standing in the spot where it has to be.
While the other players’ goal is to hit the
tin can.

popular street game among Pinoys. It
is considered to be best played and
enjoyed at night especially when the
moon is full.

How do you play this game?


How to play Patintero:
(optional) Draw lines like (A. For 3
players each team, B. For 4 players each
team)

• Winning the toss entitles the players on that


team to be the attackers or runners.
• The defense or taggers stand on lines 1, 2, and
3. Number 1 can go anywhere to tag the
runners.
• The objective of the attackers or runners is to
get through all the lines (1, 2, 3) back and
forth without being tagged.

• Defense or Taggers 1 and 2 tag the runners as they


cross their lines or as they get near them.
• As soon as one of the runners crosses line 3, he
returns to line 1 and calls out, “Tubig!” This
means a point is scored in favor of his team. The
team which scores three consecutive points is the
winner, and will be the runners of the next game.

The sack race or gunny sack race is a


competitive game in which participants
place both of their legs inside a sack or
pillow case that reaches their waist or
neck and hop forward from a starting
point toward a finish line.

pillowcases and chairs. The number of
sacks/pillowcases and chairs are equal to the number
of teams.

How do you play this game?


How to play sack race:
• Have the groups form their lines. There must
be a big distance from each group. Give each
group a sack.
• Put a chair in front of the group at least 10
meters distance away from them. The chair will
serve as their point of reference.

• The first person in each the line will be the first


participant of the race. The participant will step
inside the sack, heads out holding the sides of
the sack by his both hands.
• When the “GO” signal is given, they hop
towards the reference point the chair) go around
the chair and hop back to their lines.

group, the next participants will follow
doing the same procedure until all of them
in the group will be able to participate.

steady pace and rhythm to prevent you

Luksong tinik is a popular game in the


Philippines. It is originated in
Cabanatuan city, Philippines, played by
two teams with equal numbers of players.
Each team designates a leader, the nanay,
while the rest of the players are called
anak.

There is no required equipment for this
game because you only need your hands
and your feet.

How do you play this game?


How to play Luksong Tinik:
• The first team decides among themselves who
will play first and who will be the two who will
act as the “thorns” in the game. Thorns have a
very important as well as difficult task in the
game. Jumpers take turns passing the levels.
The jumpers form a queue and the thorns take
their position.

• The “thorns” A sit, facing each other


with the soles of their feet touching.
This is the first level that jumpers
must successfully jump through
without touching any of their body
parts with those of the thorns’ body
parts.

• Next level the two thorns must adjust


their distance a bit towards each other so
they can comfortably and successfully
create level 2, where one of “thorn A’s”
foot is used as base, and another of
“thorn B’s” foot as the second level
above the base.

• Then it is thorn A’s foot as base, thorn B’s foot as


second layer of base then thorn A’s other foot as
3rd level.
• Then is both A and B’s feet alternating to create
level 4. Then it is all four feet plus thorn A’s hand:
Level 5. A & B’s feet and one hand each: Level 6.
A& B’s feet and two of A’s hands and B’s one
hand: Level 7. Finally Level 8 has all four hands
and feet alternating.

• Successful jumpers are cleared and pass on


to the next level. The group decides how
many tries will be given for each attempt.
For example, you get one more try. So if you
were unsuccessful the first attempt, you step
aside and wait till everyone has their turn
jumping over the “thorns”.

• After this, all the unsuccessful ones take their


second attempt. If you still did not clear that
level, you are out of the game and spend the
remaining time watching the rest of the kids
complete all the rounds. Then you are
candidate for the thorns so that the thorns of
the current game can take their turn as jumpers
in the next game.

What is the purpose or the goal of this game?


The purpose of this game is to challenge the
players’ jumping ‘height’. The purpose of this
game is also to have fun.
What are the tips you can give to win this game?
The tip I could give is to jump higher by bend at
your hips and knees, Push yourself to a standing
position as you thrust your hips forward, and lower
yourself into a squat, and then jump as high as you
can. to build momentum.

Bulacan, it involves the players
jumping over the person called the
“Baka”.

How do you play this game?


How to play Luksong Baka:
• At the start of the game there should
be one player that should be called
“Taya” (It’) or in this game the
“Bakang lala” (Cow).

• The players should avoid contact or


falling over the “Baka” player while
jumping over.
• The “Baka” player should start with a
bend-down kneeling position (A “Baka”
player bends over with his hands placed
on his knees).

• All players are to jump over the


“Baka” until all the players have
jumped. Once the 1st set of jumping
over the “Baka” is done, the “Baka”
player’s position will slowly rise-up
after jumping over the “Baka”
player.

• Only the hands of the jumper may touch


the back of the person who is bent over. If
a player fails to avoid contact orN fall
over the “Baka”, he/she will replace the
“Baka” player with a bend-
down kneeling position (3), and the game
continues until the all players decides to
end the game.

The main goal of the players is to
successfully jump over the “Baka”
without touching or falling over
him/her. That means the player should
jump very high which will test his
power.

The tips I can give are have a good
take off, keep you arms firm as
you lean, and jump high

In conclusion, traditional games are better


than modern games because it is more
relevant for child development. However, to
make it more enjoyable there should be
some modern changes so children could
enjoy them and makes their mind fresh and
their bodies get healthy.

Through traditional games every


Filipino individual will develop their
patriotism. We can accept change and
modernization but we shouldn’t be
forget our culture and tradition instead
restore it, revive it and preserve it.
