By saving the current size and position of panels as a named workspace,
you can restore that workspace even if you move or close a panel. The
names of saved workspaces appear in the workspace switcher in the
Application bar.
To be uniform throughout this training, we need to open certain panels,
the same for the whole class.
We need the following panels:
• Actions Panel
• Navigator & Histogram Panels
• Character & Paragraph Panels
• Properties Panel
• History Panel (moved from the panel dock to the side of the Paths Panel)
Save a custom workspace:
After opening panels, we need to save the current workspace and rename it.
• With the workspace in the configuration you want to save,
choose Window > Workspace > New Workspace.
• Type a name for the workspace.
• Under Capture, select one or more options:
o Keyboard shortcuts Saves the current set of keyboard shortcuts
(Photoshop only).
o Menus or Menu Customization Saves the current set of menus.
The TOOLS Panel
The Tools Panel is on the left side of the screen. It has many tools
that allow you to control and modify the image that you opened in
Photoshop. The tools in the Tools Panels are the frequently used tools
and they are automatically displayed when you launch Photoshop.
To display the Tools Panel in two columns:
• Click the Collapse button. To return them back to one
column, click the Collapse button again.

THE CANVAS SIZE DIALOG BOX
Image>Canvas Size (Ctrl+ALT+C)
Image size VS. Canvas Size
The Image Size resizes its borders “stick” to the image and the image is
pulled or squished with the borders.
The Canvas Size resizes its borders to expand or contract without the
image.
*** When you resize an “image,” you make the entire file larger or smaller. When you resize
the “canvas,” you enlarge or shrink the borders while the image stays the same size.
Document/Paper Sizes

IMAGE RESIZING & RESAMPLING
Resize vs. Resample
Bicubic Sharper:
• Use this option when resampling your image smaller for best image quality
Bicubic Smoother:
• Use this option when resampling your image larger for best image quality
Bicubic:
• Not really used much now that Bicubic Sharper and Bicubic Smoother are
available. Again, these options are grayed out here because they only apply to
images that are being resampled. If all you’re doing is changing how large or
small the image will print on paper, these options don’t apply.
With Resample Image checked, you’re resampling the image. With it unchecked,
you’re simply resizing the image.
Resampling images by changing the width and height values in the Pixel
Dimensions section of the Image Size dialog box is primarily used when optimizing
images for the web.
Resizing images by changing the width, height and/or resolution values in the
Document Size section of the Image Size dialog box is used for print.
