MUSLIM TRAVEL
 As reported in the Mastercard-CrescentRating
Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2018,
Muslim travel is expected to generate an
income of atleast US$220 Billion by the year
2020.
 This market segment has garnered importance

on countries and companies that are engaged


in the hospitality service industry.
MILLENNIALS

 As defined by Neil Howe and William Strauss,


“millennials are those individuals who are born
between 1892 and 2004”.
 Millennials of this day are now commonly called

as Generation Y or Net Generation.


CHARACTERISTICS OF
MILLENNIALS
 This generation is commonly casted in a negative
spotlight and described as a generation of “Me,
Me, Me”. A period of narcissism. The book called
The Me Me Me Generation, labelled this
generation as such.
GENERATION ME
 On a research presented at the 2016 annual meeting of
the Society for Personality and Social Psychology
(SPSP) in San Diego, it was stated that millennials are
aware of their narcissistic character and actually dislike
it.
 Despite that, millennials are still described in many

positive traits like being open-minded, supportive for


women and minorities’ rights, confident, liberal, upbeat,
open to new ideas and quick to adapt in the rapid
technological changes.
MUSLIM MILLENNIALS
AND TRAVELLING
 Muslim millennials make up a large portion on
Muslim majority countries like Saudi Arabia,
Pakistan, Yemen, Oman and other countries.

 By 2030, Muslims are expected to cover atleast 29% of


the Global Young Population by ages 15-29.
 Based on the Mastercard-Halal Trip Muslim Millennial
Travel Report 2017 (MMTR2017), Muslim millennials
are expected to inject US$100 billion worth into the
travel industry by 2025 which was presented during the
Arabian Travel Market’s Global Halal Tourism Summit
2018 that took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre on
April 24. In addition to that, it was also reported that
46% of Muslim millennials travel 2-5 times a year.

 Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel
Agents (MATTA) stated that among all the
countries belonging in the Organization of
Islamic Cooperation(OIC), Saudi Arabia,
Malaysia, and Turkey are the largest
outbound travel markets for Muslim
millenials. Germany, the Russian Federation
and India are Top 3 for non-OIC countries.

 It is believed that more than 30% of Muslim


travellers are millenials.
The Challenges for Muslim
Mindanao
 Stakeholders – a person with an interest or
concern in something, especially a business.

 National Tourism Organization (NTO) – it


communicates Muslim traveller/s mainly needs and
ethical practices that a Muslim traveller/s needs.
NTO advocates a welcoming destination for Muslim
travellers.

These challenges tackles the availability of welcoming


destinations:
 Hotels

 Destination Management Companies (DMC’s)

 Attractions

 Airlines

 Airports; and more.
