READING
 LISTENING SKILL
Teaching listening skill using ICT can be done by various kinds of technology and multimedia.
Examples: Digital stories, Mp3 recordings or podcasts.
The ICT used in the classrooms is very important in ensuring the development of students’
understanding and thinking skill.
According to Nachoua, the skill of listening is of key significance for English language learners to
acquire.
With the presence of ICT, nowadays, it is easier for the students to enhance their listening skills
because they can surf many website or videos even though they are not at school. When they
are at school, it is the responsibilities of the teachers to make sure that they are on the right
path.
 The teachers can make the learning process fun because by using the ICT, they can produce
many of teaching’s styles. They will not stick on the lame teaching skills and the students will
become more interested to learn.
The obstacles that the teachers nowadays need to face are:
1. Not all schools have enough Internet access or technology needed such as laptop.
2. School in the rural areas get limited or no Internet access at all.
3. Sometimes the ICT labs in the school are not enough to accommodate with the large
amounts of students.
4. It will be tougher to teach the children in the rural are because they are hardly exposed
with the technology.
 READING SKILL
• According to Castek et al, the development of literacy skills is a matter that stresses
students a lot.
• Online reading is a way to take all that stress away and turn it into enjoyment. (E- Book)
• With the rapid development of technology, nowadays students can easily surf for the
online reading material that they are interested in.
• Examples of applications that provide online reading material (novel, newspapers,
magazines etc):
1. Wattpad
2. Serial Box
3. Kindle
4. Google Play Books
5. Libby by Overdrive
• The responsibility of the teachers is to make sure that the students
understand what they are reading of. One of the way is to ask the students to
share what they read online in the class. This also will develop their speaking
skill.
• E-Book also provide the students with various types of reading material. As a
result, the students will be interested in reading as they can access to the
reading materials that they favour the most.
