Examples of installation
methods
Single-core
cables in conduit
in a thermally
insulated wall

Cables on
perforated tray run
horizontally or
vertically
Cables on a
wire mesh
tray

Multi-core cables in
conduit or in cable
ducting in the
ground
Cable Sizing Method

• Ampacity Table

• Actual Sizing Calculation

• Cable Derating Factors Consideration

• Proper Cable Size Selection after Satisfying

Required Conditions
Cable Derating Factors
• Temperature Correction Factor

• Ground Temperature Correction Factor

• Thermal Resistance Correction Factor

• Cable Depth Correction Factor

• Cable Distance correction Factor

• Cable Grouping Factor

Cable Distance correction
Factor
• Case 1 : Groups of one or more circuits of
cables laid directly in the ground

(a) Single-core
cables

(b) Multi-core
chables
• Case 2 : Groups of one or more circuits of cables
laid in ducts in the ground

(a) Single-core
cables

(b) Multi-core
chables
Cable Grouping Factor
• Perforated cable tray systems
Vertical perforated cable tray systems
Unperforated Cable

Tray Systems

• Cable Ladder Systems, Cleats, etc.

Conditions for Proper Cable
Size Selection
• Cable derating amp should be higher than full load
current of load.
• Cable voltage drop should be less than defined voltage
drop.
• No. of cable runs ≥ (Full load current / Cable derating
current).
• Cable short circuit capacity should be higher than
system short circuit capacity at that point.
