Objectives of the Study
General Aim:
To make an inventory and assessment of Rubiaceae
composition of the Penablanca Protected Landscape and
Seascape and Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park
utilizing morphological and molecular data.

Specific Objectives:
1.Identify the species of Rubiaceae inhabiting in each
protected area.
2.Determine the endemicity and conservation status of each
species found in the area.
3.Reassess the previously studied species in the area as
research in this family is progressing resolving problematic
taxa.( i.e. Canthium monstrosum found to be one of the
species in the area is now named Kanapia monstrosum)
Objectives of the Study

4.Determine which of the genera dominate in each

sampled barangay/municipality covering PPLS and
NSMNP.
5.Relate the dominance and presence of species with the
ecological characteristics (from secondary data) of the
protected area.
6.Identify new and interesting species if there is any
and do phyto-chemical analysis of it.
7.Conduct molecular study on complex and problematic
taxa.
8.Produce Instruction,Education and Communication
(IEC) materials out of the collected specimens.

Scope and Delimitation

This study is confined only in looking into the Rubiaceae

components of the Penablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape
(Lapi, Minanga, Cabasan,Aggugaddan and Nabbabalayan) and Northern
Sierra Madre Natural Park particularly in Maconacon, Divilacan,
Palanan Dinapigue, San Pablo, and Cabagan . Each collected plant shall
be identified up to the species level except if absence of reproductive
parts of the plant does not permit the researcher to do so.
Time and Locale

Collection of Rubiaceae species will be done on January-June,

2019 in Penablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape in
Penablanca,Cagayan and Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park in Isabela,
Luzon, Philippines. Morphological and molecular procedures will be
done on July-October, 2019 in the University of Santo Tomas,Manila.
