According to this principle, the whole work is


divided into small tasks.
AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

• This refers to the issue of commands followed by


responsibility for their consequences.
• Authority means the right of a superior to give
enhanced order to his subordinates; 4.responsibility
means obligation for performance.
DISCIPLINE

• 6. Refers to obedience, proper conduct in relation to


others, respect of authority. It is essential for the
smooth functioning of all organizations.
UNITY OF COMMAND

• 8.This principle states that each subordinates


should receive orders and be accountable to
one superior.
UNITY OF DIRECTION

•7.All those working of activity


must understand and pursue
the same objectives .
SUBORDINATION OF INDIVIDUAL
INTEREST

• 10.The management must put aside personal considerations


and company objectives first. Therefore the interests of
goals of the organization must prevail over the personal
interest of goals of the organization must prevail over the
personal interests of individuals.
REMUNERATION

• 9Workers must be paid sufficiently as this is a


chief motivation of employees and therefore
greatly influences productivity

• 12.Scalar chain refers to the chain of


superiors ranging from top management
to the lowest rank
ORDER

• 18.Social order ensures the fluid of operation of a


company through authoritative procedure. Material
order ensures safety and efficiency in the work place.
19. Order should be acceptable and under the rules
of the company.
EQUITY

• 13. Employees must be treated kindly, and justice


must ne enacted to ensure a just workplace.
Managers should be fair and impartial when dealing
with employees, giving equal attention toward all
employees.
14.STABILITY OF TENURE OF
PERSONNEL
The period of service should not be too short and
employees should not be moved from positions frequently.
An employee cannot render useful service if he/ she is
removed before he/she becomes accustomed to the work
assigned to him/her.
INITIATIVE
• 15.Using the initiative of employees can add
strength and new ideas to an organization.
Initiative on the part of the employees is a
source of strength for an organization because
it provides new and better ideas.

• 16. This refers to the need of managers to ensure


and develop morale in the workplace; individually
and communally. 17.Team spirit helps develop an
atmosphere of mutual trust and understanding and
it helps to finish the task on time

CHAPTER 2: THE FIRM/ORGANIZATION AND ITS
ENVIRONMENT

Objectives:
• identify various forces/elements of the firm’s environment
• summarize these forces using the PEST and SWOT analyses
• describe the local and international business environment of a firm
• To explain the role of the business in relation to the economy
