Let no man despise thy

youth; but be thou an

example of the believers,
in word, in conversation,
in charity, in spirit, in
faith, in purity.
Young Christians face many challenges today

Youth does not excuse one from proper conduct

Young people can live in such a way that they

will not be despised (disrespected)

Young people can and must set the proper

example for others
Youthful respect is earned, not automatically
given

Young David would not be despised by his

brothers, by Saul, by Goliath (1 Sam. 17:28-29,
31-33, 42-44)
Be an example because your life affects others
(Tit. 2:6-8)
6 Young men likewise exhort to be
sober minded.
7 In all things showing thyself a
pattern of good works: in doctrine
[showing] uncorruptness, gravity,
sincerity,
8 Sound speech, that cannot be
condemned; that he that is of the
contrary part may be ashamed,
having no evil thing to say of you.
9 [Exhort] servants to be obedient
unto their own masters, [and] to
please [them] well in all [things]; not
answering again;
Be an example because you are
the future of the church
Let no man despise thy
youth; but be thou an
example of the believers,
in word, in conversation,
in charity, in spirit, in
faith, in purity.
In Word
Words are powerful things
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life [are] in the power
of the tongue: and they that
love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Ephesians 4: 29

Let no corrupt communication proceed out

of your mouth, but that which is good to the
use of edifying, that it may minister grace
unto the hearers.

Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all

these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy
communication out of your mouth.
Matthew 12:36-37
But I say unto you, That every idle word
that men shall speak, they shall give
account thereof in the day of judgment.
For by thy words thou shalt be justified,
and by thy words thou shalt be
condemned.
Colossians 4:6
Let your speech [be] alway with
grace, seasoned with salt, that ye
may know how ye ought to
answer every man.
Matthew 15:8
This people draweth nigh unto
me with their mouth, and
honoureth me with [their] lips;
but their heart is far from me.
Matthew 15:18
But those things which proceed
out of the mouth come forth
from the heart; and they defile
the man.
In Manner of Life
Ecclesiastes 12:1
Remember now thy Creator in the
days of thy youth, while the evil
days come not, nor the years draw
nigh, when thou shalt say, I have
no pleasure in them;
Philippians 1:27
Onlylet your conversation be as it
becometh the gospel of Christ: that
whether I come and see you, or else be
absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye
stand fast in one spirit, with one mind
striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Philippines 2:15
That ye may be blameless and
harmless, the sons of God, without
rebuke, in the midst of a crooked
and perverse nation, among whom
ye shine as lights in the world;
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever
things [are] just, whatsoever things [are]
pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely,
whatsoever things [are] of good report; if
[there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any
praise, think on these things.
In Love
Not “free love” or a “love affair”…

Love is selective (1 Jn. 2:15-17)

Love is expressed in commandment
keeping

John 14:15
If you love me, keep my
commandments
1 John 3:15-17
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and
ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding
in him. Hereby perceive we the love [of God],
because he laid down his life for us: and we ought
to lay down [our] lives for the brethren. But whoso
hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have
need, and shutteth up his bowels [of compassion]
from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1 John 2: 15 - 17
Love not the world, neither the things [that
are] in the world. If any man love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him. For all
that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh,
and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,
is not of the Father, but is of the world. And
the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:
but he that doeth the will of God abideth for
ever.
In Spirit

One’s spirit (mind / attitude / disposition) is critical

Colossians 3:1 - 2
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek
those things which are above, where
Christ sitteth on the right hand of
God. Set your affection on things
above, not on things on the earth.
In Faith
Faith in God is necessary
Hebrews 11:1 - 3
Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen.
For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Through faith we understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of God, so that
things which are seen were not made of
things which do appear.
In Purity
Modest dress that does not
promote impure thoughts
1 Timothy 2:9
In like manner also, that women adorn
themselves in modest apparel, with
shamefacedness and sobriety; not with
broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly
array;
1 Timothy 5:22

Lay hands suddenly on no man,

neither be partaker of other
men's sins: keep thyself pure.
2 Timothy 2:22

Flee also youthful lusts: but

follow righteousness, faith,
charity, peace, with them that
call on the Lord out of a pure
heart.
1 Peter 2:1
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and
all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies,
and all evil speakings,
